Battery Keeps Draining A6000

I have an a6000 that I bought about a year ago with a 2 battery grip attached.  While I like the camera, I am really upset about the battery drain.  I have set it for monitor only and airplane mode but when I put it in the case with 2 fully charged batteries and 2 days later they are down to 84% and 2 weeks later they are dead, there is something seriously wrong with the programming as I can't imagine the CMOS battery would have that much of a drain on the big batteries.  Other than Sony's suggestions of removing the batteries just causes me to have to reset the date and time.

 

Any other suggestions or recommendations?  I'm at the point where I'm going to trade in the a6000 for an a6300 or a6500.

From what I've read on other forums you will have the same problem with the A6300/A6500 cameras as you have with the A6000. I keep the Airplane Mode ON on my Sony's as you do and I always carry a spare battery or two in my bag.  Wish I could help you more.  If you find a solution please post it here.

I love the A6000 and A6500 (currently have just the 6500).  Both have short battery life.  But unless you need a prolonged constant use of the camera (time lapse, long video sessions) I found just buying a handful of after market batteries and dual base chargers was the perfect solution.  I have a couple in my pocket, a few in my bags, and always a pair in the charger.  Batteries are small and cheap, upgrades of camera bodies are not.

Have you tried removing the grip? It's not made or programmed by Sony. It may have some glitch that adds to battery drain.

 

Apart from that, I usually insert a fresh battery when I use the camera after some down time. It just comes with the territory.

Good suggestion on the grip. I have an A77ii with a Sony two battery grip and if I forget to turn the power switch on the grip off, even if the camera itself is off, the batteries do drain quite quickly.

So, you think the battery grip may be draining batteries even if the camera is off?  Hadn't considered turning the grip off (have to look and see if it has a switch) but won't that mean the CMOS battery will drain and I will have to reset the settings again?

. In theory yes but in my case the battery drain from the grip must be hundreds of times the power needed to keep the cmos battery charged. Additionally, the cmos battery should, if it’s in good condition, maintain you camera settings for months - the one in my old Alpha55 was still doing the business after 6 months with no main battery in.

The other setting you can turn off to preserve battery is Pre-AF (Gear tab, page 3). It will keep trying to autofocus even before you half-press the shutter.
