Hey everyone!

I want to expand my collection of lenses for my a6300 to something telephoto. But I keep noticing every telephoto worth its clarity in price is all for full frame.

I've been eyeing the Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G OSS Lens, but I'm worried the aperture, with the crop sensor, will make it not worth it. I have the 55-200mm kit lens, but it doesn't feel sharp at all. I just want a decent telephoto that makes decently crispy shots.

I'll be using it for wildlife, landscapes, and even some astrophotography. Am I going to be disappointed? Is it worth saving a bit more for the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 (because it will still be semi-fast on an aps-c)?

Thanks for your help, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants a nice telephoto on their sony a6000 series.

Most likely you will be disappointed after paying the price

for the 70-210 2.8 and dealing with its bulk, given that you

have complaints about the crispness of the 55-200, which

has an very good reputation for IQ.

No doubt the 70-210 will be better, but the improvement is

gonna be marginal ... unless you somehow received a very

screwed up example of the 55-200. Assuming your 50-200

is on par with other examples, you'll be upgrading from a

very good lens to an excellent lens. While "very good" and

"excellent" are not scientific terms, suffice it to say that it's

not a Quantum Leap ... so, again, given the price and size

you'll encounter, for a minor upgrade, disappointment lurks.

Look at the

Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5–5.6 GM OSS

That would be overkill for an A6xxx camera ;-) Heavy and way too expensive in my opinion.

@fredography: I assume you own the 55-210mm from Sony? I found that this lens is pretty decent, especially for the price. Maybe you got a bad copy? I doubt that the 70-300mm will give you a significant advantage...

Maybe you should also have a look at lenses from other manufacturers, e.g. a Sigma 100-400mm with a Sigma MC-11 adapter (if you don't mind the somewhat slow autofocus).
