Why is my shutter count going up so fast?

Recommended Posts

OK, we all know I don't like my A6000 and am trying to sell it.  When I purchased my A6000 I uploaded a jpeg to http://tools.science.si/index.php and it registered as 10.  I have my file numbering to count sequentially on all my camera's so I know what the shutter count is just by the filename.

So a couple of weeks ago I know I had about 750 clicks on my A6000 but tools.science website said it was about 1700 (can't remember the exact number).  Took the A6000 on vacation with me and now that I'm back am going to get rid of it.  Now the file numbering is up to dsc2004 but the tools.science website is showing 4762 clicks.

What's up with that?  Was going to use that website to 'prove' my shutter clicks if anyone asked for it but it's not accurate at all.

To be honest I don't really feel like helping you after your zealous personal attacks at random people in several of your threads. Fortunately, we're not all as vengeful as you are.

Don't know that tool you're referring to but possible causes for higher shutter count than photo's made are:

- EFCS off: causes two shutter actuations per exposure, one at start and one at finish of the exposure

- Specific scene photo options, such as handheld twilight, take multiple exposures and merge them into one file

- About once a month the camera takes a dark exposure when turned off to map hot pixels.

If you have EFCS turned off it may well explain why your shutter count is roughly twice as high as your photo count.

Thanks Pieter.  I was thinking it was the shutter and was going to do tests with and without EFCS.  When I first set this thing up I had it using electronic first curtain like most suggest but then I read somewhere that that can cause colour issues.  And since I'm not happy with the white balance on this thing, I turned off electronic first curtain.  One thing positive I will say about this camera - I actually like the shutter sound using full mechanical shutter.

Cheers!

Sounds like the camera has become aware of your personality.

This whole palaver is all about managing expectations vs. reality. In reality no camera is perfect. Even the most expensive cameras have compromises and specialisations that make them less than perfect.

Whatever camera you own, it will have quirks and characteristics that you will have to learn to handle to get the results you want.

It's quite clear that your disappointment leads you to react negatively to anything the camera does.

On a side note, I assessed some photos taken with your ideal camera, the M5, the other day. I was really appalled by the colours and contrast which struck me as very unnatural.

Therefore, for your sake, you should find a way to deal mentally and emotionally with cameras. Your next one won't be perfect either.
