Username
Next time you encounter a similar night scene, try the camera's own built-in HDR. I think you will be hooked :-) Below is the HDR Level 5 rendering of a city far less romantic than Paris. Paris is the "City of Light" and it should look the part. Albany NY has no similar claim to "The Light", but HDR5 digs into the shadows while simultaneously taming highlights, without resorting to a flat, low contrast rendering [Nex APS-C & kit lens] : Welcome, dear visitor! HDR rawks :-) Certain experts will warn you not to attempt moving subjects. Humbug ! Do attempt it. It's hit-or-miss but the hits are well worth the misses ! [a7-II & 35/2.0] : Perhaps the posted lo-rez examples above suggest that HDR drains sharpness. Here's a better look at a portion of the cityscape, still of limited resolution as required by the forum software, but you can readily see much more details: You've already bought the HDR when you bought your camera. Now ... go get your money's worth !
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! This is NOT dusk. It's fully night time. A bit like telling Picasso how to apply paint?

Now ... go get your money's worth ! Congratulations. You've singularly missed the point of the subject of the OP's photograph. There are more than enough over processed images in the world already. Why would you want to use in camera HDR which you have no control over? Blending is best done in post where you have control over every part of the process. To use your analogy in a different way, I have a car that will do 150mph. I don't drive that speed even though the car enables me to do so. Just because to s there, doesn't mean it's wise to use it. Colorado
Sorry but this is a "Forum" and should be full of suggestions, tips and insights on how to make your photography better, more interesting or just different. I have been behind a camera for more the 35 years and if I wasn't still looking to improve or trying something different it would of become stale long ago. So please keep the suggestions coming and I'll keep visiting this site, otherwise I need not waste my time.
