I am still learning about the potential choices available on this camera. I am wondering if it is possible to set the 4 memories to, say memory 1 Aperture Priority Mode, 2 Shutter Priority Mode, 3 Spot Metering Mode and 4 Auto Mode, obviously, this choice is rather simplistic and I am sure much more complex scenarios could be programmed into this camera but the afore mentioned would be very useable, to me, at least?

Some important things about saving

1 you can only save adjustable items and settings in menu option one ( with camera sign) nothing from any other menu can be saved to user location.

2 ONLY dial positions 1and 2 are saved to the camera inbuilt memory.

3 save M1 to M4 in the menu selection are only saved to a SD card , if that card is removed or changed that memory is not available.

Basically pretty useless as it means you are very limited in what you can save a preset for

Well yes and no, I used Pentax for years and had some very complicated set ups saved and you could even name them so I had, basic wedding, flash, landscape, sport and so on but you could with Pentax also assign buttons and dial behaviour and save those to each user setting.

With my Sonys all I have is a couple of starting points saved that save a few seconds set up due to the limited input available, but handy never the less . I just wish you could also save from the gear menu then life would be much improved.

I don't think even the new A9 or 6500?the has any better options, or maybe I just have not seen it mentioned

Initially I considered using the memories, but then

I, too, found them so close to useless that since

they do so little and they're so tedious to use, that

functionally they are useless. I was expecting they

would be like my Canon which puts everything in

memory [3 m-channels on mine] The Canon really

does exactly what Kenneth wants ... and if Canon

can do it, so can Sony, if only Sony had any staff

that had a clue about actually USING photo gear.

One verrrrry important thing that you gotta grant

to Canon is that 80 years making cameras ... not

Walkmans and TeeVees ... really shows ! Sony's

memory channels do nothing except waste space

on the mode dial :-( Canon's channels are almost

like having a few extra whole cameras on hand.

I don't even hafta name my Canon channels cuz

they remember everything including whatever ISO,

aperture and shutter speed you'd like them to start

up with. Soooo when I see "ISO100, f/11, 1/125" I

know thaz the "Accurate Realism" channel and not

the "Avialable Darkness" channel that starts up as

"ISO6400, f/2,8, 1/20". I keep the 3rd one held in

reserve and set it up in advance of specific jobs as

they may arise.
