A200 is probably dead - what is equal to this, more or less?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

My A200 bought 2008 has serious problems, I guess I have to scrap it or give it away. The display does only light up when I go through the menus, but when using the camera, shooting, then the light is off - I can see the info, but it is not lit up. Next, the camera empties the batteries faster than fast. All in all I guess it has serious damages to some electronics, and such might be impossible to fix. So bye-bye, it's been a pleasure all the way!

As it is an old camera, I am not at all into what might be a good buy to be its successor. I might go for yet another DSLR camera, I am old user of Minolta before I bought the Sony, so I am kinda programmed/brain washed to like these SONY cameras. As the lenses included in the package from back then have died(bad quality), I for the time being only have one lens from Tamron DC 17-70, so it is not the wide range of accessories limiting my choice right now, more the thought of spending loads on a new/used camera, but some money will be put into such. And I would like to hear what you might recommend - I do not need the wildest beast in the range, as I am used to the basic/smallest version, which has done the job very well.

All answer are welcomed :)

Best,

Anders

Aside from 2nd hand A200's on flea-bay, most new cameras are way more than equal to the A200.

I bought my step daughter an A200 for graduation back in 2008. She never really took to photography so it sits in the box unused. If the A200 suits your needs, you're happy with it and would be happy to have another one; let me know and I'll ask her if she wants to sell it. Bought from B&H with kit lens. Low actuation count and original battery.

Sorry if this post broke forum rules, just offering an option to a user.

Not the best camera on the market, but the absolute best

deal on the market is due to the rapid model upgrades at

Sony. Their a6300 was barely born and almost walking

when the a6500 replaced it. But there are plenty of new

a6000 kits still in stock at about $600. All three versions

are great cameras but the clearance pricing on the a6000

is incredible.

You can compare features, brands, formats til doomsday,

but at the moment, $600 is an extremely low price for a

fine camera of ANY description and the a6000 is one of

the best cameras around. The two upgrades are acoarst

even better, but until the supply of original a6000 is gone,

the sale prices of the upgrades are almost impossible to

consider seriously. ATM the clearance on the a6000 has

made it a bargain of a degree we almost never see.

IOW, if you actually consider an equivalent to the A200,

you will spend that same $600 on a much inferior device.

It's just a freakish moment in the market place, so it's an

extremely propitious time for your A200 to have died :-)
