Aperture not adjusting in manual photo or video (Sony A7R + Metabones)

Recommended Posts

My setup:

Camera: Sony A7R

Lens: Canon 24-70 f2.8 mi

Adapter: Metabones EF-E mount

Hi All -

The aperture dial on my Sony A7R inexplicably stopped working (?) recently. I'm fairly new to this camera an realize I could be missing something. I don't think it's the Metabones adaptet because I was able to adjust aperture with this exact same setup not too long ago. I haven't done anything in settings since then.

Any ideas? Happy to post more information if it's helpful. Thanks for reading.

Everything was functional and then seemingly

without ANY cause it's not ? First priority is to

clean all the lens contacts. With an adapter it's

4 sets of them cuz you have 2 interfaces.

If that doesn't do it, the next area of priority is

user error. You believe you have not changed

any settings. This is never a reliable belief with

these photobotic cyborgs.

----------------------------------------------------

Jumping past a few distractions ... reverse the

assignments between front and rear wheels to

see whether the problem is in the wheel as a

hardware failure or some problem in the signal

path for aperture control. If after reversing the

wheels the problem moves to the other wheel,

the there is no hardware failure of either wheel.

If the problem wheel remains the same wheel,

you most likely need a hardware repair :-(

And acoarst you've tested for functionality with

a native mount lens [or you're about to do so].

==================================

Here's a partial clipping from another thread.

This applies to all models, but doesn't always

work ... depends on where in the camera's

little brain the squirrels got in. But it is safe to

give it a shot :

I have a6000 since 12/2014 and it was working perfectly untill yesterday
when all of a sudden buttons and dials stopped responding most of the time.
Only shutter button is working all the time. Other buttons and dials do not
work for some time and suddenly they start to work and after short time
stop responding again.
I have tried resetting and initializing two times. I have also tried taking
the battery out and turning on and off as it was suggested to some other
guy who had the same problem but it does not help.
What else to do? Do I have to send it to repair or there is some other
solution?

I had the same problem. Before you send it in for repair try a HARD RESET!

1. With the camera off, remove the battery.

2. Turn the camera on (without the battery)
and push ALL buttons TWICE [each] !

3. Turn off, replace battery then turn on.

Let us know if that worked.

Thanks for the feedback.

I switched up the wheels and the problem wheel stayed the same. Full disclosure, the camera was dropped in water for about 1/4 second a few months ago. I didn't have any trouble with aperture immediately after though. I'm guessing that's what did it? How much does a repair like this typically cost?

Unfortunately no, as I purchased it on Craigslist 8 months. That said, my renter's insurance will cover this accident if the cost is high. I'm expecting a few hundred bucks and hoping that's a reasonable expectation...
