Thank You Tadwil!! That helps a lot with my decision on which one to buy! Looking forward to trying the a7R after after some frustration with my Nikon Z6II! Might be switching brands- Again! -
You are correct. From the next generation on, the grip was beefed up and the shutter release was moved to the grip, improving the ergonomics greatly. Also from second generation and beyond, IBIS was added to the camera, which imo is of greater improvement over the first gen A7xxx bodies.

Hello, I'm new to Sony digital cameras and was going to purchase a used a7R. Having owned both Canon and Nikon, I wanted to give Sony a try. While doing a search on Ebay, I noticed the shutter release button was on top of the camera body on some of the a7R's and on top of the hand grip on others. The difference mainly being having an extra 'C' button. Is that the newer model? It seems like the handgrip location would be the way to go. Any insights on this would be much appreciated!
