My 2 cents. I was shooting canon for about 8-9 years. So now that my 5dmii got a little bit old i got a really cheap offer i couldn't turn down on sony so i went for the a7ii and the a6000 for backup 2 months ago. In this 2 months i shot fashion for 2 model agencies in Milan, some shootings for local designers back home, american footall game and a formula1 race in Austria,... Until now i had no problems. Raw files from 7ii are sweet, the only thing that bothered me was some funny grain or distortion on jpegs while i shot formula 1, but it turned out it was only on the photos that were a little shaky and not 100% clean spot on.

The system is totally new for me so i think i have some room left in the settings to get better but all in all i managed to get more out of my shootings than before on my dslr.

So yes, you can easily go and be professional photographer with that gear. As someone said, gear is not everything, 2 years ago i shot a whole editorial with point and shoot disposable camera... The gear can just make it easier to achieve what you want or need.

Let's see some examples of those photos.

Cause here are the results of a Sony v Nikon comparison.

Better lens with better light and the Nikon

There is nothing in that A7r shot that is in focus, could be an issue of technique - which includes the need to overcome system AF differences and known limitations. The A7 cameras work differently to a DSLR, you have to adapt if you are going to be successful with one. Proving that Contrast AF is slow in poor light ... you are not the first person to point this out.

ISO 100 (in poor light)

F4 (SEL70200G right?)

OSS enabled ???

Single AF, center (perhaps not the best choice, Continuous AF with lock-on is probably better).

Shutter Speed = ???

... so what was the shutter speed?

There is nothing in that A7r shot that is in focus ... so what was the shutter speed?

... implying motion blur ... need to be explicit ...

The Sony/Nikon comparison picture is useless with no context.

Max i am not at home so i can not provide you with full size pics... You have som from the f1 here on the forum but they are very compressed for the upload. I only have this one on this computer but there was some retouching going on on this one

I shot my first paid wedding with the 35mm 1.4 on the A7S and mostly the 85mm 1.2 on the 5DM3

the A7S has the ISO and silent shutter, but 5DM3 excels with AF - the combination served me well enough.

:D

Oh by the way Don't believe all the Sony vs Nikon BS. you can find samples that lean ether way.

Sample: Crappy old Sony a100 10 mp with old Minolta AF 135mm lens through a dirty car window. I don't remember the ISO, i think it was 100.

Pixel peeping for comparison is pointless unless the lenses are IDENTICAL :) Also if using a non-e-mount lens via a Sony or non-sony adapter, micro-focus may have to be adjusted.

For example, Below is a sample that makes the D810 look worse than the A7R,, but you really can't go by that because the lenses are not identical. ;)

Also you do have to wonder about the intentions or motivation of a person that sets up a "SonyvsNikon" website and then sets up a account in a Sony forum just to post derogatory threads and posts about sony products.  Kinda makes ya go Humm. <_<

Its a nice Web Site ... problem is the rest of the Web is full of really great pictures taken with the same Sony cameras and lenses ... so aside from Web Bots and masochists I'm not sure what its achieving, accurate or not.

anyway ...

:D

+1

I'm here to be occasionally helpful to others.

Little to nothing here is of help to me in the

technical realm. But, I'm not here to seek help.

I'm here to seek another thing vital to my well

being: Entertainment, especially humor. I can't

stand "stand-up" comedians, even those that sit

down. But the forum offers a great comic relief

from the mundane bidnez side of things.

So again, a big +1 to your :-)

See ya in the funny papers ! [or on the forum].

I've studied Max's a7r images and i've come to the conclusion that he has ether bracketing on or auto hdr on. That or his in lens shake reduction is somehow disabled or not even present. But we can't tell for sure because he refuses to give the lens specs and there is no exif lens or camera data attached to his picture.

Wellll ....it's ... you know .... Max !

As a consumer of media product, you

need to be aware of the differences

amongst entertainment, infotainment,

drama, comedy, documentary, etc.

I see a lotta peeps get get all hot

and bothered just cuz they mistake

entertainment for documentary.

Etc etc etc all true ...

but one detail is kinda off:

Micro-adjusting AF on E-mount cameras ?

If you have an E-mount camera, try to

micro adjust the AF [just for kicks] ;-)

Obsolete concept there ... unless you're

specifically referring to LA-E2 or LA-E4.

And even then, you never focus a test of

image quality indirectly. You manually

focus the live-view image.
