The guy above did grow thin waiting for such a long time for the new A99II. But rumor has it the wait will soon be over ;)

At this point rumours about A-mount cameras are just rumours about rumours about rumours about A-mount cameras ;)

For me personally, it will take more than just one pro A-mount body to convince me that Sony is serious. I need to see more of a commitment, like a set of G Master lenses for A-mount.

Then, I'll know that A-mount is part of Sony's plan for the future.

If they release just an A99II, I won't buy it, because I'll feel like it's a trap to keep me from leaving.

A99II or A9??

That is the real question?

What if its both? And the A99II gets only a sensor bump to 36MP or 42MP; while the A9 is _all_ new, 60MP, pro design, improved A-mount adapters and a kitchen sink.

What are the A-Mount folks going to buy then

Where's the problem? 5DMkIII has 22Mp and it's the most widely used camera by pros and enthusiasts.

Megapixels don't matter after a certain point.

I did a little searching on the internet and didn't see the 5DMk3 listed as the most popular camera.  Do you have a source you can post?

Not being sarcastic, I would actually like to see this list.

Anyway, I'm happy to wait for a new A99 model.  My current A99 is still working and probably will be still working in a few years. Also second hand A mount lenses have dropped in price :)

You are right, what Sony needs to do is take the existing A99 and upgrade it, with no changes at all ... just take the existing box, and in gold colored pen, write a "2" after (not before) the A99. And make the same strategic change to the camera inside, but in this case, write a "ii" after (not before) the A99 where ever it appears on the camera.

Sorry, so used to sarcasm, it's hard to spot people being honest.

If you look at flickr's camera page, for instance, you'll see that it is the most widely used camera, after a bunch of mobile phones. But you'll also see it if you look at what other photographers carry.

It's not strange though. Canon is the biggest manufacturer and 5DMkIII is their best price/performance camera.

I don't get this. Whatever it is, I don't think Sony should or would do this.

Adding the 'ii' after the A99 is a reference to Canon not actually changing much on the inside of their camera bodies and adding a 'ii' after it.

The 5Ds and 5Dr are good examples, exact same body as the 5D3.  Whilst the 5D3 might be a great camera body, its not perfect. Canon could have spent a little time tweaking the design a little.  From my point of view they are a little lazy.

Anyway, all the Pro photographers that I see either in real life or on the internet seem to use Nikon and/or Sony.  I've not seen anyone us Canon for a while.  But that might just be the people I hang around with.

I'm sure when Sony does release a new High end A mount camera, it will be impressive.

If / when Sony upgraded its native A-mount to FE mount adapter to support all AF functionality the A9 body supports, then I would seriously consider moving to the FE mount body.

Until then, I have only one option. That is wait ever so (NOT) patiently for the A99ii to be released.

The fact that Sony now produces QXD memory cards with 400MB/s write speed opens the door for a significant improvement in high speed raw image capture. The obvious size of the A99 would suit these cards more than the current A7 body size.

Personally, I want to have this problem of choice:

1. Native A99ii with latest sensor and technology

2. A9 with fully functional A-mount to FE mount adapter

What would I choose?

Like everyone else, we would have to see the detail before making a final decision.

Whatever I decide on I know I will be very satisfied.

Now my only problem is my own lack of patience. :(

I'll have to agree, for me to get an A99 II would also mean getting new lenses and further investing in A-mount isn't really my goal when A-mount is de fato dead.

I'll need prove other than marketing words, that Sony is back on A-mount - I'll need to see Sony advertisements and I'll need seeing A-mount in the shops again. Short of that, A-mount is still de facto dead, or at least dying.

Improved A-mount adapters sound good, but what will it bring. Full AF functionality for all A-mount lenses, if so then I'll get it and go E-mount camera or maybe even the A99 II get the A-mount lenses and see E-mount as the A-mount replacement when A99 II is gone.

It depends on what you shoot.

If you're talking proper freelance photographers, they shoot Canon or Nikon.

Among the portrait and wedding photographers you'll find a few Sonys.

5Ds/r were released in kind of a panic to answer demands for niche high res caneras. Not really indicative.

Regrettably, it's impossoble to be monogamous with only one camera. There's just too much temptation out there.

If the A99II comes out, Im going to fly to Vegas and marry it.

Ergonomics of A77 and A99 are very good - just add a touch screen and 1000 new features :-) And a "my menue" slot (is that so hard to do ... ?)

(to be honest - I'm not sure if a touchscreen would be a benefit in these models. It would in A7 series. But hey, Canon and Nikon have it, so ... :-))

The biggest advantage I see in a touch screen is the ability to very quickly adjust the spot focus point across the full screen.

The biggest negative I see is having the screen facing outward and looking through the eye piece and accidentally changing settings with your cheek.

On second thoughts, that may be an advantage to look through the viewfinder, twist and press knobs and buttons with your fingers AND also have full access to change other features with your tongue.

:P

See, it will be easy and so hygienic.

I have been waiting patiently for an A99ii to replace my A99 and I will pick it up more than likely. However, I must admit that an A9 which has a form like the A99 and an adapter which provides 100% compatibility with my A mount lenses would be very tempting.

I agree.

IF this A9 had built-in switchable FE/A mounts it would open up a serious range of new lenses to the large Sony Alpha mount population without penalizing them for supporting Sony before the FE lenses came onto the market.

I would buy an A9 with such a set up.

............  However, I must admit that an A9 which has a form

like the A99 and an adapter which provides 100% compatibility

with my A mount lenses would be very tempting.

"100% compatibility" and what on earth does THIS mean ?

No matter. Could mean whatever you want. The reality is

that the DEGREE OF compatibility, meaning the level of

performance and convenience, will be constrained by the

OLDEST component in the mix. Thaz a global principle of

all systems, and NOT peculiar to Sony.

For me it would have to mean that any A mount lens would have to perform (on the new camera) at least as well as it does on the current A-mount system. I don't think many people think a new camera is somehow going to magically make all old lenses perform beyond their capabilities. Asking a Sony user to stick with Sony and at the same time take steps backward when dealing with their current lens inventory is a hard pill to swallow. I feel if Sony could make an E system that A-mount lenses would perform like native lenses, a lot of "A mounters" would be much more willing to hop on the E train.

That's exactly what I was thinking. If the a9 and an adapter could match the performance of my lenses on an a99ii I'd be tempted. I'm not interested in giving up performance as is necessary with the current crop of adapters. I want a wide focus area and fast autofocus on my old screw drive lenses and my new SSM ones.
