A6000 buttons and dials not responding

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a6000 since 12/2014 and it was working perfectly untill yesterday when all of a sudden buttons and dials stopped responding most of the time. Only shutter button is working all the time. Other buttons and dials do not work for some time and suddenly they start to work and after short time stop responding again.

I have tried resetting and initializing two times. I have also tried taking the battery out and turning on and off as it was suggested to some other guy who had the same problem but it does not help.

What else to do? Do I have to send it to repair or there is some other solution?

I had the same problem. Before you send it in for repair try a HARD RESET!

1. With the camera off, remove the battery.

2. Turn the camera on (without the battery) and push ALL buttons TWICE!

3. Turn off, replace battery then turn on.

Let us know if that worked.

Do you push each one twice and then move

on to the next button, or do you push each

button once but go around the whole set of

buttons twice, or doesn't it matter which way ?

I ask this seriously .... not joking, cuz I don't

know if this procedure is coded instruction,

or OTOH is just to do a very thorough job of

draining away all residual memory power, so

hitting every button twice is just a way of

being extra thorough.

I'm guessing that it's intended to drain power

very thoroughly, since the battery is outside

the camera ... and, were it a code, it would

make sense to maintain power, and push the

buttons in a certain order, maybe with timing.

Did you do by chance install the latest firmware update?

If not I would go ahead and do it as it may well be software related

Yes. I have tried old firmware after initialization and then 3.10. Problem was still the same.

Okay This process worked for me. My a6000 didn't recognize the kit lens and the shutter button wasnt working. So my question is, Why does this process fix the camera? It didn't seem to reset the camera or anything.

Thanks Al Pha!
