Is there a way to use Macbook (via HDMI) as a Live Monitor for A7sII Video?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just purchased a Sony A7SII. Love it already.

I'm hoping to buy an external monitor soon but, in the meantime, is there any way that I can use the HDMI out with my Macbook Pro to see a live view of the camera's feed? Not sure if the RemoteCameraControl app is what I'm looking for (I tried it with no luck). I've heard others mention a Black Magic App. I'm sure something needs to be fiddled with in the settings on the camera itself but I can't seem to find the correct menu. Any advice you guys have would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

This is for A7R2 and probably (maybe) for A7S2 but live view and almost total control of the camera including touch screen focus works through Sony's Play Memories Remote iOS app for stills.  I don't think the app was designed for video, which might be what you're interested in.  Also be sure that the monitor you plan to buy will support the HDMI signal from the Sony, I had to return my first inexpensive Marshall monitor.
