Walking through a wilderness preserve with an a7rII and FE 70-200 f4.

Notice the road creates a narrow berm with no barrier between the bodies of water.

FE 70-200 is really too short for wildlife...but the longest I currently have. Was hoping they would upgrade the 70-400, but not this round.

Phenomenal cropping capability with the a7rII.

Closest I got was top of the berm, probably the left track of the 'road' used by county service vehicles as public motorized vehicles are prohibited - other than an electric tram that volunteers run on Saturday. It was along the established 2 mile birding loop. While it is a park open only to hikers, cyclist and horseback, technically, it is a 1600+ acre former ranch that was flooded with fully treated sewage water that flows through 16 filtering pools (thus the berms). While previously, the high phosphate level directly released in the river caused algae blooms, it now takes about 40 days to filter through before reaching the river and has less phosphate than the river has naturally.  A public park is actually its secondary purpose - but a great use of resources.

I too was hoping for a longer FE lens announcement for wildlife. Been holding off on the A-mount 70-400, and debating about the cheaper Tamron (Sony or Canon) or Sigma (Canon) 150-600. Then there is also the new FE GM 70-200 f2.8 with the new 2x adapter making it a 140-400 f5.6, but have a concern about the 2x adapter and would prefer a dedicated lens anyway. The Sony website noted the 2x and 1.4x adapters as "manual" which would be terrible for BIF or sports.
