I was shooting a concert last night.  The stage was lit but the room was dark.  After about 5 minutes I articulated the screen to get a better view.  The LCD screen went black shortly after that.  It came back after about 30 seconds and then blacked out again.  I resorted to using the viewfinder. Wondering if the dark room make the camera think my eye was up against the eyepiece or if the articulating screen was causing a problem.

I set the FINDER/MONITOR setting to Monitor(Manual) in page 3 of the Custom tab in the Menu.  Then I assigned Custom Button 2 to Finder/Monitor Sel.  I was having the same issue and it was driving me crazy so now I just switch between the two manually.  Hope that helps

Same here! I have an A7RII and it definitely behaves like it is supposed to with the viewfinder and monitor set on auto. My A7SII on the other hand gave me problems the same as you guys, and acts completely different. Good idea Will! I have just set mine to Monitor all the time and just use it that way.

Sony a7S II with Sony 24-70mm f4 lens ... shooting video  RE: FINDER/MONITOR set to Auto

Mostly I have my eye to the Electronic Viewfinder which works 100% of the time.  Occasionally, I like to use the Monitor screen.  However, the Monitor would only come on sporadically.  Mostly, the Monitor did not work at all in the Auto mode.  Is there a problem with my camera?  I see others have setup a Custom button and resorted to a manual setting for either Viewfinder or Monitor.  Is the AUTO function not reliable?

I love this camera ... just trying to figure out what to expect.  Thank you.
