Which ND filters for the Sony 16-35/f4?

Hi

 

I'm currently thinking about switching from Nikon to a Sony A7R II. On the Nikon I use the 14-24/f2.8 with the Lee SW150 filter holder for my landscape pictures. I currently have both the little and the big stopper.

 

Any suggestions what you'd get in my place, in case I do the switch? Stay with Lee (Seven5?), or switch to something else? On the Nikon there wasn't really that much choice, since the 14-24 lens doesn't allow screw-in filters - you have to use square ones.

I wouldn't ditch the Nikon for Sony.

I own a D810 and D750 and love the D810 with the 14-24 F2.8.

Do NOT sell it.

If anything, get the Novoflex adapter and shoot the Nikon lens on the A7r II (which I also own).

You should be shooting it MF anyway for long exposures, so what does it matter if you use an adapter that only gives MF?

 

There are reports that the A7r II is noisy at exposures over 30s.

Don't know if the 2.0 firmware will fix it, but for now, the Nikon is my long exposure rig.

 

The 16-35 F4 is an OK lens, but I sold mine and won't buy another copy.

Your closest lens to the 14-24 F2.8 is the Rokinon 14mm F2.8 which has the same built in metal hood and rectilinear design, so you can buy an adapter.

It works fine. But as for the rest - I wouldn't swap the 14-24 and lee filters once you have it, you will loose more than you gain I think.

The 16-35 is a first step, it's possible that I'll switch to a prime around the 15-20 mm range. Who knows what lenses Sony brings next, might be something like that.

Thanks - I would have waited...I miss the 14-24, but getting one used and having to ditch my lee 100mm isn't a option. Maybe holding on to 14-24 waiting for Sony or someone else making a prime is a better choice?
