It's really terrible that Sony has taken out the built in GPS function in their cameras! Not everyone uses a cellphone and it adds an unneeded complexity to adding GPS locations to photos. -
Seems you are correct (and out of luck). I just tested it with my A6500 and 18-105 PZ and can't get it to save/recall focal length.
