When reviewing shots you can rotate the rear dial and zoom in or out. It will return to the zoom level you leave it at when you exit. So, if you zoomed all the way out and then exited review mode, next time you hit review it will be zoomed out.

Press the button and rotate the rear dial, see if it zooms in. Then, leave it where you want it. I find that about halfway between default zoom and no zoom works best for me.

Thanks, Cameratose.  I know what you mean, and that doesn’t seem to work either.  The dial will now only move me from one image to the next.  I used to be able to zoom in with the AF ON  button and zoom back out using AEL.   That and/or the dial.   Now neither works.  I’ve definitely done something silly and I don’t know what I did???

Hi Cameratose.  It does the same in all modes.    Pressing the back dial AND rotating it just moves between images.  Neither zooms in like it used to.  If I go to the menu and select Playback/Magnification/Enlarge Image, I can do it but it was so much more convenient and easier to zoom in with AF ON and zoom out with AEL.  Don’t know what I’ve done but I’ll keep trying to find an answer.  Thank you for your thoughts!!!

Well, then I'm stumped. It's obvious there a weird setting, programs don't just change their selves. I hate to say this, seems I've been recommending this a lot lately, but if all else fails, you could always do a reset. Of course that'd kill any custom settings you have.

If you sort it out, please do let us know.

When you press the playback button to review images, the dial will move between them.

Then you press AF-ON, and it (should!) zoom in. Then moving the dial alters the amount of zoom. Pressing the image playback button exits the zoom, and pressing it again takes you back to shooting mode.

There are three camera modes: shooting stills, shooting video, and playback. You can set a button to do different things in each mode. It is possible to redefine lots of controls 😄

It is possible that you have set the AF-ON button to do something different in playback mode. You can check that by:

  1. Press Menu
  2. go to the yellow Setup menu
  3. top three items are
    1. Stills Custom Key/Dial Set
    2. Video Custom Key/Dial Set
    3. Playback Custom Key/Dial Set
  4. Choose Playback Custom Key/Dial Set
  5. The Custom Key setting for Rear (which is the first shown, followed by Top) shows the current settings
    1. 1 shows what is currently assigned to AF-ON - it should be Enlarge Image
    2. if it's not Enlarge Image, press right on the dial, then the button in the centre of the dial to change it. The command is in the blue Playback menu, sub menu 2 Magnification, first item.

The other thing to check while you are in the menus is your current setting for Playback / Magnification / Enlarge Initial Mag - the usual setting is "Previous Mag", but you might prefer to set it to "Standard Mag"

I hope that helps

Why not just save your settings, then try and see if a reset fixes it? If not just go back to your saved settings....

But write them down too. If it does fix the problem, you wouldn't be able to reload them because you wouldn't know what was causing it.

Hello, FunWithCameras.

My camera’s menu has Stills Custom Key/dial set,   Video Custom Key/dial set, and then just Custom Key setting.   It doesn’t say “Playback" Custom Key/Dial set.   But…I went into that last one (Custom Key Setting) and set AF-ON for enlarge image and it worked.  And it didn’t seem to affect the AF function at all so…I think I have found the (or a) solution to this problem thanks to your suggestion.  I don’t know how I got into this situation in the first place but I appreciate your, SonyFF32137’s, and Cameratose’s help with this issue!   Thank you all very much!!
