Imaging Edge Mobile 7.8.2 doesn't work on Android 12

Recommended Posts

I updated a Samsung S10 with Android 12 to Imaging Edge Mobile 7.8.2. It worked for a short time, then started losing the connection to the camera (A7R3). Then it started crashing.

After uninstalling/reinstalling it a few times, I did the following:

- Cleared the phone's system cache (not app cache)
- Cleared IE's data
- Uninstalled IE
- Reinstalled IE
- The first time I opened the app, it allowed the two questions to be answered, and the terms of use accepted. It then crashed.
- Now, it crashes as soon as it is opened.

BTW, the previously installed version of Imaging Edge (I don't recall the revision) worked fine for years, but started acting strange (it ignored the touch screen, etc.), which is what prompted me to "upgrade."

Also, the latest IE works fine on an iPad.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply.

Per Sony's support page (https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/CCCA99004):

Cameras compatible with Creators' App

  • ILCE-1 (Ver. 2.00 or later)
  • ILCE-9M3
  • ILCE-7RM5 (Ver. 2.00 or later), ILCE-7SM3 (Ver. 3.00 or later)
  • ILCE-7M4 (Ver. 2.00 or later)
  • ILCE-7CR, ILCE-7CM2
  • ILCE-6700
  • ZV-E1, ZV-E10M2
  • ZV-1F, ZV-1M2
  • ILME-FX3 (Ver. 3.00 or later), ILME-FX30 (Ver. 2.00 or later)
  • ILX-LR1

"For cameras not listed above, use Imaging Edge Mobile. These cameras are not compatible with Creators' App or Imaging Edge Mobile Plus."

I have an A7Riii and an A7ii, neither of which is included that list.

Is that Sony support link out of date?

I doubt Sony would be issuing firmware updates for their older cameras, it's not their typical style.

I use neither, nor do I use cloud-based software. I've offered as much as I can, sorry. I hope you find an answer.

Seems a weak wifi connection and is a known issue with Sony camera. Try to keep the monitor opened and to stay away from other wifi devices. Depending on what you want to achieve, a Bluetooth solution may be more robust (but no live view).

As originally stated, Imaging Edge 7.8.2 will not run on Android 12 (I didn't try other Android versions).

IE crashes before displaying any menus (ii.e. it just disappears0 and Android then displays an error message that includes: "Imaging Edge has a bug. Try updating this app after its developer provides a fix for this bug."

As noted, Imaging Edge running on an iPad does not crash, and works fine over WiFi with my A7Riii.

No monitor is involved. Are you thinking of the desktop version? The software in question is the Mobile version..

Thanks..

    • I am currently using Peak Design's everyday backpack 30L. In it (or strapped to it) I can carry the following: A1 with Tamron 50-40mounted, A7 IV with Sony 24-105 mounted, 2-3 spare lenses of varying sizes like 24mm, 135mm, and a 70-200. Spare batteries, strap/PD Clip/wrist strap, spare caps, spare cards, lens cleaning materials like wet wipes, lens tissue, and a microfiber cloth, ear protection, business cards, tripod or small folding chair, water bottle, spare socks/T shirt, hoodie, etc.  One of these days I should take a photo of the bag with everything unpacked. It isn't light.  For smaller outings I use a Tenba Solstice 10L sling which allows me to carry a camera with a couple of lenses, the ancillary items, and a small tripod or monopod I also have a Vanguard Alta Sky 53, which is big enough but not laid out as well, and the bag itself weighs 6 lbs. empty. The Peak Design is half that.  You will want a bag with a sternum strap and waist strap, but you will also want it to carry high on your back to reduce fatigue. Try to put most of the weight near the top and lighter articles toward the bottom.
    • Thank you. I only wish I had camera store near me so I could look at them
    • While I cannot help you with specific models and the amount of stuff that I carry with me is much lower, I have been buying camera bags since the '80s and I have been experiencing with several brands. I had horrible experiences with some, such as a shoulder strap failure while walking on a mountain trail or backpack zippers that broke while walking in a city, leaving all my gear exposed to people behind my back. The brand that I never regretted buying is Lowepro, I still use a backpack that I bought in 1996 and that I love because it does not scream "camera inside" but looks like a business one. I still have all the Lowepro equipment that I bought and the one that I gave away, it was because I did no longer need it, not because of failure. Therefore my advice is to take a look at their product range if there is something that fits your needs.
