HI, I'm a self-portrait fine art photographer and rely on my remote control a lot. Previously I had Sony a7rii and a wonderful RMT-DSLR2 remote which doesn't work with the A7RV version. The only 2 other remote controls I found don't have a 2 second delay vs immediate release separate functions and other things that are super helpful for my work. Any suggestion what to do? Any chance Sony will make the RMT-DSLR2 compatible with the RV? Why take away a function that worked great and not provide adequate solutions? I specifically need a wireless remote (and not a cell phone, as it's much harder to hide from the shot than a simple remote). Thanks

I'm no expert on the A7RV, but it looks like Sony only set up the remote for the A7RV to be used with a smartphone.  It's possible some third party will make a remote that works on its own, but that's just a guess -- and seems doubtful.  Hopefully someone who knows more about the A7RV will have a solution, but you are correct -- it's a nuisance when a NEW product drops a feature that the earlier model had.  What were they thinking?????

Maybe on the A7RVI Sony will remove the shutter release button completely, and require you to use your smartphone for that too!!!

Thanks @XKAES but my issue is that I have to have a small remote control, that should have an option of an instant release as well as the 2 second delay. hiding a smart phone when you're doing a timeless image is much harder then a small remote. this new absence of a great feature really forces me to rethink the whole routine of creating my art, not in a fun way.... 😞

Same thing happened with geotagging your photos: older models used to have their own GPS connection, newer models require you to connect to a smartphone to use its GPS for geotagging.

Hi @Jani Westman - I have and am not thrilled about it. It doesn't allow an instant release as well as a 2 second delay. i sometimes need both of these functions for my self-portraiture work, as the camera could be far or out of reach for me to keep going back and forth and changing it. it's frustrating. By "simplifying" and changing things they are actually making my life much harder now.
