Which lens to pair with a7R iii?

Recommended Posts

I’m looking to eventually achieve photos of my products similar to the photo I have attached. Could any of you recommend a lens that can achieve this type of photo to go with an a7R iii?

Thanks

The type of lens which is guaranteed to be able to ficus close enough it do this is a macro lens.

The 90mm macro is a good macro, but you could do this with the FE 50mm Macro lens, which is not expensive..

I ended up getting the FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS. I still have a lot to learn and this lens will hopefully help me achieve my needs of some basic and simple product photography. Im only trying to take some decent photos of products that I make myself and use those on my instagram/ecommerce site etc

That is a super nice lens. I was going to suggest that if you are short on cash, you can get the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro in the A-mount for less than $200 on eBay.  You would have to get an adaptor for it, but for product photos, a dumb (no-AF) adapter would be fine.  But you got the best with the Sony 90mm macro.  You are gonna love it.

Lol, I am sure I will. I just have to learn how to use it properly now though. It’s a learning curve for sure, but I am not in any rush and will learn little by little.

I don't know about you, but I find learning new things part of the enjoyment of photography, and there is no shortage of new things to learn - there may be shortages of parts, of memory cards, even of camera forums, but there is no shortage of new things to learn 😊

There is an old saying that goes like this. "Practice makes perfect."  However, if you are practicing wrong, no amount of practice will make perfect.  So, I have modified the old saying and now it goes like this, "Perfect Practice makes Perfect." 😆
