S&Q not able to achieve continuous focus with Aperture priority

Hi, I shoot mostly in the city lights in the night. I am having trouble getting a continuous focus while shooting in S&Q mode at 100fps while panning(handheld).

I use Tamron 70-180mm f2.8 with Sony A7 III. I use continuous AF mode with either centre or wide metering. Also, I shoot in aperture priority mode in S&Q mode. Sometimes, I press continuously the shutter button to get the subject in focus but it doesn't work all the times. I am not sure, if it is due to not enough lightning or wrong settings.
There are numerous videos for the pan photography but haven't found a one for the videography. Please help! Thank You
