Sony 7S3 Remote Control RM-VPR1

Hi All, enjoying the postings. I Purchased a Sony wired remote for my 7S3, the RM-VPR1. I booted the camera up with the remote in the multi pin terminal. The only thing that works is focus when I push the top focus button, the start/stop button does not operate.
Changing the shutter button in the menu to-SETUP-OPERATION CUSTOMISE-REC with SHUTTER  seems to activate both buttons.
So with “rec with shutter” active both main buttons on the remote activate recordings. This is not a disaster as in a run and gun scenario hitting either button on the rig starts recording. My preferred option is to keep the top button for focus and the lower one for record
Has anyone else come across this ??
