Did I get the wrong lens for my Sony Nex-6?

Hi so I just got the Sony NEX-6 body, and I got a couple lenses for it, one of which is the TTArtisan 50mm f/1.2 telephoto lens. I'm a little annoyed honestly because everywhere I looked said that any E mount lens should work with a Sony E mount. The lens fits and clicks onto the mount perfectly but when I try to use it a message comes up on the camera screen that says "Cannot recognize lens, attach it properly". Any ideas why it's not working?

Your TT Artisan 50mm f1.2 lens is an all manual lens.  you need to go to into the Settings menu (gear icon) and "Enable" the "Release w/o Lens" setting, in order for you to shoot with manual focus lenses.

For some reason -- I'll let you figure it out -- whenever you buy a camera or lens or whatever, they love to tell you all the great things the new gear will do, but they always "forget" to tell you what the new gear WON'T do.

Just one more reason to ask about their return policy before a purchase.

Sony NEX 6 was released in 2012-09-12 and was replaced by Sony A6000 in Feb 2014.  I highly doubt if there is any return policy for used goods if it's still in working order.  It also sounds like the lenses were purchased separately after the purchase of the NEX 6.

Most reputable shops have a return policy -- even on used gear.  What that is varies, of course.  And that might be an option here.  The OP indicated it was just purchased.  Whether the lens is new or used it's worth checking out..
