Jeffcs
I own the 16-35 f2.9gm and doing more video mor and more. I’m looking to get the announced 16-35 plz f4. After seeing the specs on the plz g lens and having a couple g lens I’m completely happy with so… I’m trying to decide on selling or keep the gm but why have 2 of the same lens. Advertisement Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Hi Jeffcs, Take a look here 16-35f2.8 vs 16-35 plz f4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thebeardedgroundsman
I guess you're looking at the G for it's power zoom, you don't use the GM to it's full capabilities (f.2.9)and you don't need it for video. In which case selling it would go a long way to off setting the cost of the new lens. Or you could give it to me!!

tadwil
As a zoom lens for video, the yet to be released 16-35mm f4.0 PLZ looks more versatile to me than the faster and more expensive 16-35/2.8 GM. The PLZ has separate rings for focus, zoom and aperture (which can also be declicked). Having manual overrides for focus, zoom and aperture settings while letting the camera adjust the exposure, seem ideal to me.

Besides, noone here can advise you properly on this matter as the decision should be entirely based on what is important to you. We don't know your selection criteria as you didn't share them with us. All we can do is rattle on about the specs of these two lenses, which you obviously assessed thoroughly by yourself already. So what are your thoughts on this I like the idea of power zoom for smooth transitions but I do like the f2.8 for photography truly I don’t need 2 same focal length lenses
WilliamG
I don't shot much video, but it seems like you really really want the PLZ lens lol I say go for it and lose a stop of light/bokeh. The advantages seem to outweigh the disadvantages; super cool it has diff manual rings for focus/aperature/zoom - I was unaware. If you want to cater towards lower apertures then prime lenses are the way to go imo. 1 or 2 of your favorite focal length primes in your bag is a good day of shooting stills!
