Went out with my dad yesterday to shoot some birds at a nearby lake. This juvenile Black Crowned Night Heron showed no fear and let us get very close.

Nice shot.  I assume you were not in "auto-exposure" mode.  That dark background would cause problems with the exposure.  Were you using spot metering?

Hi there! If I remember correctly, I was in shutter priority mode. But I could’ve been in manual. I was switching back and forth. If I was in shutter priority, I was surely having to use some exposure compensation. Luckily, this guy stood still for so long that I had lots of time to tweak settings. Here’s another…
