A6400 Audio Recovery

So I recently filmed a few videos with my A6400, I had a Rode shotgun mic connected which I've used quite a few times now with no issues.  On these recent videos I got no audio, just a  buzzing sound like the mic wasn't connected properly.  

My question is, does the A6400 still record sound from the internal mic as a backup even when there is an external mic connected?  And if so how can I access that audio file?  Or am I just shit out of luck?
