24-105 mm G Lens - What a lens!!!

I was in my backyard today with my 24-105 mm G lens on my A7C. A bird flew down and landed on my lawn. I didn't have time to change to a telephoto lens, so I took the shot at 105 mm and cropped the heck out of it. The cropped photo is still sharp and clear. The file size was reduced to fit here.

Looks like you need a longer lens!

I have lots of longer lenses. But, didn't expect this bird and didn't have time to change lenses.

Using my 24 - 70 lens, for a difficult downward angled shot, I didnt realize that  I, in gripping the camera, had pressed the lens release button ! So, instead of zooming in, i unscrewed the lens ! It crashed to the concrete, and spalled the front lens !

Strangely , The  B & W filter, never broke ! Anyway, by then , the 24 - 105 had come out, and using the insurance money, i bought the  24 - 105 and i never found any difference in picture detail, and the  24 -105 .....is much more versatile !

One more reason to always have a filter on your lenses.  Mine all have a multi-coated UV filter.  It might not save your lens in every situation, but it's cheap insurance.

Good to see this bird and the detail after cropping.

I'm debating between this lens or the 24-70 Vario-Tessar. The G lens looks excellent and has a greater range, but I like Zeiss colours and the 24-70 is £300 cheaper... which can be put towards a better long telephoto.
