Battery Life Exhausted at 48%?

I was shooting today and had around 25 minutes of the shoot left with 48% battery left on my Sony. The battery icon started flashing I removed the battery and reinserted in and it came up with 47%. Moments later the icon started flashing again. I repeated and the battery life reappeared. Less than 5 minutes later, "battery life exhausted" appeared on the screen and there was nothing. I reinserted the battery again and got another minute or so out of it before it died again. 

Any clues?

Faulty battery, perhaps at the end of its lifecycle.

This first questions would be, Who made the battery? How old is it? How many times has it been recharged?  Has it been dropping in percentage more quickly than you expect, lately?

These might suggest that it's time for a replacement -- but it could just be a case of "BATTERY GONE BAD".

Any similar problems with a different battery?  If not, NO PROBLEM!
