Camera having a hardware problem?

I've had my A6000 for a couple of years. I treat it pretty gently - it hasn't been dropped or anything like that. Lately I'm noticing that when I am trying to use it, the mode changes without my turning the mode knob, and occasionally when I press down, the autofocus doesn't engage.  Is this a hardware thing? If it is, is it fixable? I could try sending it in for repairs but it doesn't always do it, which may make it hard to troubleshoot. What's the best strategy here?
