24-240mm is a great for video.  Sure, you might not get the 3-stop light reduc and bokeh with an f/2.8 with various limited focal lengths in between but sometimes you do not have the luxury of being able to keep subjects within your focal length especially while livestreaming certain events.  24-240mm is a great all around video lens.  Sure, it could be one of the worst Sony EF lenses compared to the others but for video, it does a great job.  It can also do quite a good job with photography too especially if you need that reach.  It Will outperform shorter focal lengths as you can't get those details you can get going 240mm w/ precision focus and even if you crop in, unless you are shooting with Pixel Shift, it will be worse.
