How to name the folder name showing year?

The current folder name is like this: 29700102. I know the last 4 digits, 0102 is the moth and date.  I do not know what 2970 stands for.

The date in my camera is Jan 2 2021.

The Folder Name Form is Date Form.

Sony says:

"Date Form:
The folder name form is as follows: folder number + Y (the last digit)/MM/DD.
Example: 10040405 (Folder number: 100, date: 04/05/2014)"

I cannot name the folder name in my a7II showing the year.

Help, please.

Dian

  • 1 year later...

I'm the proud owner of a new Sony A7C am am struggling with the awful folder naming conventions allowed.  I can't believe they are so limited, to a point of useless.

I would like filenames like:

yyyy-mm-dd_dscXXX.jpg

And folder structure like:
yyyy/mm/    in which the files above would sit yyyy-mm-dd_dscXXX.jpg

That I am looking at in the SD card is unintelliable.
Is this possible on sony cameras (I hope it is as man, the limited options I'm looking at there are awful)

What brand of camera did either of you had prior to acquiring Sony that allowed you to name files according to the format of your preference?  I don't believe there are any camera brand that can do this but my exposure to has only been Panasonic and Pentax prior to acquiring the Sony A7II, so yeah, please prove me wrong.

If you change the name of the folder on the card to some other nomenclature other than what the camera expects then you won't be able to view them in camera ever again. You'll get a ? mark overlaying a black screen. They're still on the card but you won't be able to pull them up or delete them in camera either since it doesn't know where the image ran off to, thus the question mark. BTW, I believe that 2970 is somehow keyed to the batch of photos taken on that date. It expects things to be in a tidy order. There're invisible / hidden files that keep track of these things...

Best to do all your renaming off card.
