A6400 S&Q timelapse quality

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I purchased a couple of A6400's specifically to use as timelapse cams for heavy transport video projects. I shot the first project with one of them this week and I'm not too impressed with the results so far. (I was using gopros and they are good but not for overall wide shots). The day we did the job it was really overcast and dark. I initially had the s&q set to 2fps and auto, then set it to 8fps and manual. Reason for using s&q is these big transports are really slow moving and I'm trying to keep the file size down instead of letting a cam run for sometimes an hour at 4k and having huge file sizes.

Here are my s&q settings:

24 final framerate
8 fps capture
Manual
1/40, F10, auto ISO
Auto focus
Lens: 16-50mm sony

I know the auto iso probably cranked itself up to compensate and created some noise, but I'm concerned about the overall unsharpness of the footage.

Here's a few clips (they appear really blown out when viewing in windows payer but are fine at capture and in my editor):
