a9: Any way to disable large PDAF square outline on screen?

Recommended Posts

I find the large square on Sony a9 screen  very distracting.  (It takes almost full screen height and about 80% of screen width, has rounded corners, and, if I understand correctly, outlines the area on sensor with PDAF points).  If memory serves, a9 is the only E-mount FF camera with this annoying feature.  It stays regardless of what AF focus mode is chosen, but goes away in MF.

I spent a good couple hours trying to find a way to disable it in menus, and trying to research it on the web.  At this point, I am pretty convinced it's impossible, but please prove me wrong!

Huge thanks!
