Alternative 70-200 2.8

Seeing that the Sony 70-200 2.8 is $2500...are there any recommendations on less-expensive alternatives for sports? Anyone have success with sports and adapters without losing the speedy AF? Please share. Currently using a6300 for outdoor (utilizing the crop factor) and a7ii indoors.

I use, with satisfaction, the 70/200 f4, it costs much less, it is lighter and has an excellent quality.

I have the 70-200 f2.8 and have never used the 70-200 f4 but I did look at it very closely and got concerned with a lot of reports of poor build quality

Have both the 100-400 and the 70-200 f4.  No issues with the latter at all.  It is really quite light, excellent optics.  If you can live without the f2.8 aperture, it is a great value lens that will produce images very nearly the quality of the more expensive version.

I’m very happy with IQ on my much cheaper Sony 18-220 on my a6500. The crop factor gives me 340. Tamron also offer a 150-600 with E mount - 2 versions too both way cheaper than your current thought - none of these are f2.8 though.

PeterMac: Are you sure there is an E mount for the Tamron 150-600? or you need an adaptor to E mount?
