a6300 HDMI out questions

Hey guys, first post.  I have an a6300, and I just aquired an Atomos Ninja Flame.   I use the a6300 on a Movi M5 quite a bit, and the monitor helps with shot framing.

I have been messing around with the best presets for outputting to the monitor, becuase I'm using that to record everything now (except 120p, a6300 doesnt hdmi out that)

I seem to only be able to output 4k when im in movie mode, which is a bit frustrating.  Is this just the way it is, or is there some small setting I'm missing?

Movie mode acts very differently from photo mode. It still renders the video while not recording, so it's ready to go at a moment's notice. You'll see the difference in the screen and color when starting a video recording in photo mode.
