  1. Ok, I LOVE this! Casey Neistat just switched from the Canon 80D to the Sony a7s II for this vlogs. And the title of the video is the "BEST VLOGGING CAMERA Sony vs. Canon" If you don't know who Casey Neistat is. He's basically the biggest Vlogger on YouTube. And until today he was shooting his more than 600 daily vlogs on Canon cameras. Until today apparently that he switched to Sony. This is a HUGE marketing win for Sony. Because Neistat has more than 6 million subscribers on the platform. Big free marketing. I bet the folks at Sony's camera department are pretty ecstatic right now! But Casey didn't just stop there. He also criticised Sony for not including an fully articulating touch screen on the a7s II, as that would render it the "PERFECT" camera as he describes it. Check out the video to see.
  2. Hello, I live in Jakarta, and I am really wanting to make a full system switch to Sony FF from a Canon APSC system, and I need to sell my canon gear for good money to be able to buy the new set up. I am 16 so it's not like I have the luxury of spending much money, so I need the best money for my gear. All of my gear is in really good to mint condition. If any of you know a place/forum to sell gear in the Jakarta area for good money, can you give me some suggestions? Thanks, Lukas
  3. Hello All I just joined the forum at this point more for information as I am close to making a switch from Nikon to Sony primarily for the mirrorless options. Yes I understand Nikon has announced their Z series mirrorless but as a hobbyist there are some things i like about Sony rather than Nikon, however, there are still several items with Sony that I am concerned with and looking for feedback. Does Lightroom convert the Sony uncompressed file to a dng format without issues or loss of quality? The biggest concern is the RAW uncompressed file size. Nikon offers and I shoot 14 bit lossless compressed in Nikon. I later convert the .nef format to dng in Lightroom. Sony does not offer Lossless compressed option so the files for a 24 mb photo will be about 2x the size. So my workflow is to convert the Sony RAW format to dng after importing to Lightroom. Will Lightroom convert the Sony RAW format to dng? Is there any degradation to the file quality in doing so? Also if convert what is the file size of the dng? I have not seen a change in the file size in .nef files converted to .dng. Any rumors, road maps or comments from Sony on firmware/software upgrades for additional functionality such as lossless compression, time-lapse video or other items. From what I have read Sony discontinued an app store that a number of these functionalities were available for purchase. Or I have I understood incorrectly and the app store is still available to purchase additional functionality? Durability in weather - how does this camera stand up to light rainfall? I do not make a habit of shooting in the rain with my Nikon D750. However, I do travel and take it with me. I don't always have the luxury of coming back some place at a later time. So I have used the camera in very (very) light rain. I have heard stories of the Sony A7III failing in even the slightest rain. Not sure if those are one off/infrequent occurrences. Finally any issues with dust or dirt on the sensor from changing lenses due to the fact the sensor is uncovered for a short period of time? I do clean the Nikon sensor myself but doesn't require it frequently. Thanks all appreciate any feedback Jim
  4. It seems apparent that Sony's strategy is no longer to compete directly in the DSLR market with Canon and Nikon. Their release cycles and statements strongly indicate that Sony seeks to overtake them in overall interchangeable lens camera sales by growing the mirrorless market. In other words, Sony sees itself beating Canon and Nikon not by making a better DSLR (in a market in which the competition has decades of entrenched loyalty), but by developing the mirrorless category. Maybe Sony was taken a bit off guard by the success of the A7 cameras, but they've definitely jumped in with both feet now. I was a loyal A-mount user, waiting, and waiting for an update to my a99. It's still a great camera, but it's far from state-of-the-art now (my RX100M4 blows it away in video quality), and many of the lenses are in desperate need of a refresh. Even Sigma and Tamron (save for the cheapo cropped head-scratcher of a vacation lens they just released) seem to have abandoned the mount. The A7R2 was just too good to pass up, and the fact that I didn't have to sell all my A-mount lenses was a bonus (still using my Sigma fisheye and 500mm, and Zeiss 135 f/1.8). So, money not being an issue, why would an A-mount user not cross over to FE at this point? I can understand wanting to maximize an investment, and riding that gear into the sunset, but if you can afford to, why not switch. I want to try to understand the market. No judgement. To me, the preponderance of the evidence suggests that the A-mount will continue to take a back seat to FE, and is probably approaching the end of its life. Your thoughts?
  5. Hi all. First post here, so be gentle please. I'm an enthusiast level Fuji X user who ran into the limitations of the crop sensor this weekend when I had to print images in large sizes for the first time. This led me to a bunch of Googling, which eventually brought me to the Sony A7 line. I make no money from my photography but LOVE taking photos, processing, reviewing, etc... My question is this: the Fuji X line is fine for what it is, but I'm getting more and more into night photography, landscapes, and long exposures, and everything I read about the Sony A7 line and it's full frame sensor is positive. I can trade all my Fuji gear and get an A7 and a kit lens (or a 28mm prime) for a reasonable price. As I want something I'm going to grow into, I'm wondering if now is the time to jump to the mirrorless full frame game, and if so, which A7 would best suit me. Again, I'm not a pro, but an extremely avid enthusiast. Thank you for any help and input, and I hope to learn a lot from everyone here. Jason A. Westchester, NY
