  1. Hey guys! I've run in to a bit of a problem, I want to make a short film and I will probably need to use my A7ii and I wanted to build out a nice rig for it but just realized that its so outdated that there is no cages for it. So my question is, If I would buy a cage for the A7iii because there is plenty for that, could my A7ii fit in it? I know that the A7ii is smaller because of the np-fw50 battery, so in theory it should fit with a little extra room left in the cage. Also if you guys have any cage suggestion I should look at I would appreciate it:)
  2. Hi all, New to this forum, in the hope that someone can help solve this mystery. I recently installed PIE (Picture Information Extractor) more out of interest than anything else. But one thing this shows is the shutter count as it is held in the EXIF metadata. I have had my A7II for little over a year and was surprised to see a shutter count of around 14000. I am not a professional and do take loads of images but not that much. Now I looked at a number of images taken on my holiday last year. The first image has a shutter count of 2207, the last taken 16 days later, has a count of 7535, that's 5328 shutter actuation (an average of 333/day) I also looked at the image names, the first was DCS01090, the final was DSC01758, suggesting less than 700 images taken. I tried some other EXIF software, and they all come up with the same number of actuation - It just does not seem right. Is perhaps ImageCount not quite what it seems? or am I missing something?
  3. Hello together, I´ve bought a Sony A7II some month ago and I always thought that the A7II doesn´t have a clean hdmi-output. As I was looking on the specs of the camera again Sony listed this feature for the A7II. So I was thinking "great, let´s have a look for an external recorder". Unfortunately the Sony A7II isn´t listed as supported camera for the Atomos-recorder. I searched the web for this topic but it seems that no one has this question so I try it for myself in this forum: Does the Sony A7II really has a clean hdmi-output and is it supported by any external recorder like the Atomos Ninja? I´ve found out that the first A7 is also supported by Atomos so why not the mark 2? Thanks for the support and best regards! Ben
  4. Hi all, I am new here. My Sony A7ii Menu button stopped working this morning. I tried updating the firmware but it doesn't seem to help. Any solution to this? Thanks. ?
  5. Hi - I have recently bought a Sony a7ii mirrorless camera and filmed with it in rush without looking diligently into everything. I didn't realise I had to use the PlayMemories Home to transfer the footage elsewhere. I did the traditional method of copying and pasting the entire folder from my SD card into an external drive. I have shot all my footage with the XAVC S format. And for a while, I couldn't figure out how to get access to the MTS files, but when I solved it, some folders were empty (while viewing on the hard drive). The folder size of the MTS files is in KB instead of GB. Now, I only have access to all the MP4 files (low resolution) and unable to access the MTS files when I follow this pathway AVCHD > BDMV > STREAM > MTS. According, to a Sony customer support specialist I spoke to, not using the app could result in damaged or unplayable files. The SD card has long been formatted, so no way of going back to this specific step. I'm wondering if anyone else had had this issue and if there's any advice anyone can offer. It's really distressing.
  6. Hey, I am currently using a Sony A7II with an LA-EA4 adapter and various A-mount lenses. My most used lens so far is probably the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 A-mount lens, which I find to be amazingly good value and having an incredibly convenient weight/size for what it is. I am currently in the process - for good or bad, I am not sure yet - of changing to EF-mount lenses, mainly because of cheaper long glass and better resale value. I have just ordered the Metabones Mark IV T adapter., but can not seem to find any reliable and up-to-date information on whether the EF-mount version of the Tamron 28-75/2.8 works together with the Metabones IV adapter. I seem to remember some reports of the built-in focus motor in the Canon version of the lens resulting in a worse experience than the A-mount screw drive version together with LA-EA4. If anyone has any recent experience with a Sony A7II (or A7RII, I guess) + Metabones IV with the latest firmware and the EF mount Tamron 28-75, I would love to hear your thoughts on it. I am also happy to take suggestions for other normal zooms I should be looking at, although nothing seems to come close to the weight/size of the Tamron for a normal f/2.8 zoom (510g). The more modern Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC is a whopping 825g in comparison. So far the best compromise I have come up with - in case the EF-mount Tamron 28-75 is not viable - is the Canon 24-105 f/4 L IS at 670g, but then I would be giving up the f/2.8 aperture... Thankful for any advice!
  7. Hi I have just place an external monitor on my A7ii for filming. It works like a charm and with the battery grip it's really really steady. Since i'm using a vintage Nikon lens I am counting on using Peak Level to focus, but I'm not seeing this on the monitor. Does anybody know if I can get that to show on the MustHD ext monitor?
  8. My latest project - low key macro/ close-up flower photography. These were shot using Sony A7ii and Canon FD 50mm f3.5 macro, a single flash (in softbox). Shot at f18 - f22 to get the dark background. Processed in PS and Alien Skin Exposure X3. Regards, Omer

  11. Sony A7II + Sony FE 90mm f2.8 Macro 1/100 | F2.8 | ISO100 Environmental portraiture is my favourite method of capturing a person and/or their personality, mood, theme etc. I like the moody feel. The right eye being obscured by the shadow and light was intentional. What do you think?
  12. I just thought I would share my expereince with the Sony a7ii after the firmware update using my Canon lenses, for anyone curious about the phase detection performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWVtHjzlQ1c
  13. I use the a7ii for video 98% of the time. But I was stupid enough to choose the a7ii over the a7s because it has the in body 5 axis stabilization which is really really great for adding stabilization to prime lenses and better AF. The a7ii is great in almost every way. And as a stills camera it probably is one of the best. But from what I have experienced after some more real life use is that the video from it is so full of moire and aliasing that you cant use it for anything other than close-ups with extremely shallow depth of field. For this it will give you amazing video. But if you step down just a few f-stops and try to film anything resembling a landscape or streetshot it will find and produce moire patterns and aliasing where no other camera has made moire patterns or aliased before. In the beginning I hoped that this was just something that happened with some buildings with patterns. But turns out you can never ever film a building, grass, water, a book, text, clothes with more than one color, trees with details, detailed signs or anything else with fine details without the result looking really really horrible. I was aware that reviews said it had some problems with aliasing and moire. But usually when reviews points this out they are talking about "normal" aliasing and moire problems on par with the GH3/GH4/RX10/AF100/etc where this can be a problem in some situations. This is acceptable for most people. But the a7ii is so much worse in this aspect than any camera I have ever tried that I am shocked. So to others who are considering this camera for video and want to shoot anything other than close-ups. Stop. Don't buy it. Trust me. It is so much worse than you can ever imagine. Right now I am beginning to realise that buying this camera was the biggest waste of money ever. In the future I have to learn from my mistake and pay more attention to reviews. But for now I have to replace it with something else as soon as I can. The a7rii might be the best replacement. But after wasting so much money on the camera it is just too expensive for me. I am also thinking about waiting to see if the a7sii might be a little bit little bit more affordable. But that will be at least a few months until it is released. The rumored a6100/7000 might come sooner. If it has external mic/headphone input I might just move to aps-C. But since I have already bought two FE lenses I would loose money selling them as well. Mayby the best option is to do what I should have done from the start and get the a7s. I woild have to say goodbye to the stabilization and faster autofocus. But compared to unusable video from the a7ii I might be able to live with that. But I will probably have to use the a7ii for at least another month or use my RX10 instead. Does anyone know about any setting or function on the camera that will at least reduce this problem a tiny bit? I read that shooting 24/25p might help. But I have to use 50p for my purposes. Can turning off all the dynamic range automation mayby help? Some other setting I have overlooked?
  14. Hi guys, was wondering if anyone would like to share what bag they are using for a7 system? Currently I have Think Tank 30 which fits nicely every singe lens I have, for longer travels. I want to buy a smaller one that could fit a body with adapter and 2 Zeiss Contax lenses (85mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4). Thank you.
  15. I just thought I would share my review of the Sony a7ii for anyone that might be interested, I've included a few sample images in the review as well for anyone that is curious. http://shutterdiscovery.com/review/sony-a7ii-review/
