The new Zeiss Milvus lenses were announced today. This is a new line of full-frame manual focus primes for Canon/Nikon DSLRs (obviously adaptable to Sony E-mount). So what is the reason for introducing this new line alongside Zeiss' pre-existing ZE/ZF.2 lenses (retroactively labelled "Classic")? It (so far) doesn't appear that the Milvus lenses are replacing the older ones. What's the distinction between the Milvus line and the Otus line? I'm also wondering about the exterior design - Zeiss has clearly tried to maintain some consistency in designing their recent lenses - the Touit, Otus, Batis and Milvus lenses all look like one family almost. So why do the Loxia lenses appear so distinct? Is there a renegade Loxia design department within Zeiss?
