  4. Hi, could please someone who owns an LA-EA4 clarify this for me: in manual focus, can I still move the box for the focus magnification all over the image area, or I'm restricted to one of the LA-EA4 focus points (all grouped in the center)? Thanks!
  5. From the album: Testing MF legacy lenses on A7R

picture of my test of the 25 year old Leica Vario Elmar 28-70mm zoomlens. Just look at the HR image to see the impressive amount of details this old lens can reveil :-) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrtungsten62/
  6. Considering buying a Sony a6500 for street photography. Want to know if it is possible to manually focus the camera to a specific distance and have the camera remember that information so that if the camera goes into sleep mode it will still be set at the same distance when I go to take another photograph. Have tried to make this work when I was looking at the camera in the store ... but every time the camera wakes up from sleep mode the previous focusing distance is lost.. I rely on hyperfocal distance to shoot street..
  7. I just received my Batis 85mm lens and converted the in lens focus assist from meters to feet. However, the live view on the camera stills shows meters. Does anyonr know how to change this to feet?
  8. I just had my Sony A7r2 delivered and have been testing my Canon lenses + Commlite adapter. Auto focus works most times. However when the lenses are set to manual focus, and you push the C3/magnify button a warning comes up that the function is "invalid with this lens". The manual confirms that this function is only available with Sony FE lenses. However! If you set the lens to manual focus, push MENU-camera-focus settings-the centre control button zooms in for an accurate focus (with focus peaking). Push the shutter button for a focused image. This appears to work with all my non-Sony lenses.
  9. Hi everyone. We rented the Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 and Sonnar 35mm f/2.8 this past weekend and took them out for a spin. I thought I'd share some photos here with this community. The in-depth review is here. http://ilovehatephoto.com/2015/03/03/zeiss-loxia-35mm-f2-0-vs-zeiss-sonnar-35mm-f2-8-lens-review-comparison/ We went to visit the Endeavour space shuttle at the California Science Center. What at sight! I was surprised to see all the piping and "mechanical-ness" of the main shuttle thrusters. It looked like a complex but still rudimentary engine to me. I somehow thought it would be like a warp drive lol. The front maneuvering thrusters were kind of surreal to see in person, since we've all seen movies like 2001 Space Odyssey or Star Wars. The Loxia's 10 blade rounded aperture also produced some nice sunstars from the halogen spotlights. There was a pretty sweet Lockheed A-12 Blackbird twin seat trainer at display in the front. It's the only Blackbird trainer ever built. The cockpit reminds me of a X-Wing fighter. Hope you guys like the photos and the review!
  10. Hi, I was thinking of buying a small set of Minolta AF lenses to use it on a A7r II (or whatever it will be called the new body), specifically: - 20 or 24mm f/2.8 - 35mm f/2 - 50 f/1.4 or 1.7 - 100 f/2.8 macro I'm going for the alpha and not the MD for the rare occasions in which I need AF, rare but still present. But given than most of the time I would be using them in manual focus my biggest concern is: how "good" is the feel of manual focus with said lenses? I mean: do they feel, manually focusing them, like you were sliding a cheap plastic ring on top of another plastic ring like the new Nikon? In other words: how the manual focus feels compared to a good old school manual focus only lens, like Minolta MD ones or Contax? I hate focus by wire, otherwise I'd go for the native lenses. That said, if they are better in this regard than the Minolta I'll try them. Thanks!
