  1. Hello All, I'm brand new to the forum and sharing pictures. I got my A6000 about a month ago and have been obsessed with night time long exposure. Here are a couple shots... By the way, what's the best way to share pictures here to retain as much quality as possible? Resize and try to maintain 1mb file size? (I resized and had them about 400-500kb and then the forum compressed to 100-120kb) Check out all my photos at http://www.instragram.com/travelforpictures
  2. Waited all year for the sun to rise perfectly at the end of this valley. Taken in Llanberis, just outside of Snowdonia, Wales. Sony A5000, Sony 16-50mm at 21mm, F10, 106 seconds, ISO 100
  3. Hello, New to the forum and hoping to purchase a Sony A7Rii camera to replace my D810 (smaller form factor for large hikes I go on, and ability to use on Cambo Actus with wider lenses). I often do quite long exposures (over 1min up to 3 mins) and never had a problem with my D810, but have seen some poor results from Sony and heard some limitations. But most of the posts I found were going back to 2015, so wondering if fixed now, or if there are good workarounds? - What are recommended settings to avoid the noise? - Is the issue now resolved? Or should I wait for the next Sony before switching? - People seem to say capture 1 processing has a slider, but poor in lightroom. Is this still the case?
  4. Hi! Just bought a5000 ystday. I was reading some stuff about camera and its options for long exposure photos and I came across this: https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/238308-dont-buy-the-sony-a50005100-for-astrophotography/?page=2 Last post on page 2, as I understand, says he is using BULB mode via playmemories app. I don't have this option I'm using playmemories app version 5.6.1 and on camera itself version 1.10 (I think they are both latest versions - correct me if I'm wrong). So when I go to M (manual), there should be BULB mode, but via app there is not? Anyway, I would like to hear what option can I use as remote shutter for taking long BULB pics (2 or more mins). Thanks for your help!
  5. Lusail City - Qatar a 3 minutes exposure, selective color in post Sony A7RII, FE 24-70 - 24mm, f 6.3, ISO 100, 180 seconds My flickr profile: https://www.flickr.com/photos/stratigm/
  6. Sunrise (clouds too thick to see) along South Carolina coast in a light rain. Shore erosion has caused the beach to retreat into the forest. Taken at Botany Bay Wildlife Refuge, South Carolina (USA). A7 Mark II with Zeiss 2/25 Batis taken at 10 seconds, f6.3, ISO 100. Developed in Lightroom 6 and NIK Silver Efx Pro 2.
  7. I have been experimenting with long exposures and nd filters with my Sony A7 II and Sony FE 16-35 F4 lense. The other day I attached a circular polarizer and a 10 stop ND filter. I've always assumed you needed to use manual focus with filters and long exposures. However, my auto focus seemed to work just fine even under these conditions. Does anyone else have a simular experience with auto focus and long exposures?
  8. I'm a new A7R iv owner and been playing around with bracketed HDR using long exposure times on my tripod mounted camera. Ive attached a shot I took yesterday (edited with Aurora HDR). I originally tried to shoot this at an aperture of f 11 with an iso of 100, but the exposure time would have been > 30 sec (which is the slowest exposure time offered in the setting for keeping the iso at 100). Only at f 4 could I get the slowest bracketed exposure time to be less than 30 sec. I did constrain the iso to be 100, but is there some limit on exposure length that I am not aware of? Arguably, I'd like the camera to take all the time it needs to shoot the image at the chosen aperture and chosen iso setting. I'm sure I've done something wrong in the setup, but I'm not sure what!
  9. Hi all. I thought I knew how to take long exposure photographs, but evidently I was wrong. My previous experience was with a Canon 80D DSLR. I've never tried it with a mirrorless camera. I don't do it very much but went out a couple of times the last couple of weeks to brush up on it and had some weird results. I currently shoot with a Sony A7RIII. I was using a 10-stop ND filter mounted on a Tamron 17-28mm lens and wanted to use f/8 aperture. I had my ISO set at 100. I set the composition then put the filter on. I was just playing around so I didn't have a particular exposure time in mind for the clouds I was using as my subject, I just wanted to do something like between 3 - 5 seconds. I was in manual mode. As I was adjusting my shutter speed I noticed that my aperture started to change. I didn't think that was supposed to happen. Clearly I don't know what I'm doing. Was hoping you could recommend a good tutorial that would help me get back on track. *Please note I also tried this with a Sony 70-300G OSS lens and had the same issues. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
  10. From the album: New England

Taken at dusk the first time I visited. FYI the gate closes at the entrance but you are not locked in. There is a photo eye that allows the gate to open from the inside so you can get out , even though it closes at dusk. I freaked out and learned this the hard way:)

  15. Hi. Newbie hobbyist who started last June. Does anybody know what would cause the "bullseye" in the center of this shot? I shot this using an a7r iii with FE 2.8/24-70 GM lens. My settings were 15 sec, f/4, iso 800. Also, I didn't see the bullseye on shots at 5 sec, f/4, iso 800. I had Long Exposure NR off for both shots. Thanks.

  17. Greetings, this is my first post here in this forum. Had a chance shooting a conceptual portrait last Dec, played with long shutter speed to create a different feel of images.
