In March, i got the chance to shoot some aurora borealis in norway. Lucky 3/6 nights. One night, i wanted to get some balance between stars and aurora in the sky, but the aurora was too strong (luxury problems, i know.) in the first place. So i decided to freeze and wait for less activity... totally worth it, imo. Coming from Canon-Fullframe-Land after many years, i thought i knew, what good high ISO performance was. Insert gameshow fail sound here. Boy, was i wrong! The high ISO capabilities of the A7R2 blew me away as i shot an exposure of 30 seconds at ISO 5.000. Of course, there's some noise, but WAY less than i expected from a 42MP picture. And quite easy to remove, too.

Fireflies illuminating a mountain path in Iriomote-jima, Yaeyama-gun, tropical Japan. Technically not perfect, but the content more than makes up for it I think. The mountain path was pitch black (about from our insect friends) and we were not allowed to use any lights as it would disturb the fireflies. I set up the A7r as best as I could on the tripod and used F1.4 with a high ISO and manual focus. I didn't think I'd capture such a result...and it's amazing that one firefly seemed to be following the highway code and driving on the left hand lane haha! Nature is truly magical at times! +++ NIGHT SHOT IN VIENNA +++ This was a true experimental high iso test for my Sony A7 model. Our only keylights were on the Store windows so the ISO bumped up to 6400 :-) Feel free to check out the complete series with Anna on my Website ;-)
