  1. Hello all, I am looking for information about the HDMI output on the A7S II that I can't seem to find anywhere else. Essentially, what is the data rate of the uncompressed HDMI signal from the sensor, and does it vary between resolution and frame rates? The A7S II is capable of outputting an uncompressed 8-bit 422 signal via its HDMI port. So many people get so caught up in the color bit depth advantage here, but very few talk about the increased data rate/bitrate that is available. This data rate increase is especially important for me due to the high-detailed, moving images I tend to shoot (a lot of nature footage on a gimbal stabilizer where the entire frame is in focus). High detail, high contrast imagery that moves through a frame tends to get heavily compressed internally by low bitrate codecs, essentially throwing away information in moving parts of the image and hoping you won't notice. (There's a great article by Art Adams at Provideo Coalition about codecs and compression that explains this in greater detail here: https://www.provideocoalition.com/here-are-my-rules-of-thumb-when-choosing-a-codec/) As a rule of thumb, a higher data rate/bitrate equals sharper, better quality footage with reduced blocky artifacts because less compression is being applied and there is a greater amount of data stored within the codec. There is more to this than just data rates (such as the complicated codec algorithms), but we won't go into that here. Essentially, I'm just looking for the data rate of the uncompressed HDMI signal available from the A7S Mk. II, so that I can properly choose an external recorder with the capabilities needed to record this signal at the highest possible quality. If anyone can provide this information, and/or point to where you found the information, that would be extremely helpful! Thanks!
  2. Hello! A very beginner question : How do you generate a colorbars from the A72? We want to calibrate an external HDMI monitor in our studio. Thanks!
  3. Hello Guys, I've got a problem with my a6300. I tried to connect it with an external monitor, but it always says: No HDMI Signal. I changed the HDMI cable, but the result was the same. I also tried different cameras and all of them are working, except the a6300. So I got my hands on to another monitor. It's a bit better here, I can see the camera options and the live view but the picture on the screen is pink, unusable for work. I tried different cameras again and they all worked. I also connected the a6300 to the monitor of my computer and it worked perfectly. Could you please help me?
  4. Hi everybody, I'd like to know if it's possible to make live streaming with sony a7sII. I'm asked to film a conference and my client would like to send the signal (video and sound) on his youtube channel, but I never did that. Can someone help me, please? Thank you very much.
  5. Dear all, I hope someone can help me with an issue I have with my Sony Alpha 7. This camera is attached to a microscope to make images and videos from surgeries. For courses we transmit these images directly to our conference room (which is 30-35meter away from the surgery room) and we used therefore HDMI extender. These worked perfect with other cameras. With the Alpha the images are not transmitting. When I plug in a HDMI immediately into a screen, it works perfect. When I try the same thing using HDMI extenders, not a single images is coming through. see attached drawing. Would this be an issue with the camera? Other something else? Thanks in advance for your thoughts! It would help me a lot! Kind Regards
  6. I'm trying to use a Sony Alpha A6100 with a BlackMagic Intensity Pro 4K capture device, and having problems with Eye-AF getting disabled. For background, when I use the same camera with an Epiphan AV.IO 4K capture device, it works fine. Specifically, I go into the Setup3 > 4K Output Select menu, select "HDMI ONLY (30p)", and get 2160p29.97 output (so not actually 30, but good enough since I know what I'm getting) with Eye AF working great. Same thing happens with an Elgato Camlink 4K capture device. By contrast, when I plug the camera into the BlackMagic capture device, several things are different. First, the "4K Output Select" menu is unavailable. Second, on my screen I get a blinking "STBY" icon, as if it weren't plugged into an HDMI device. Finally, of course, there is no Eye AF, which is unfortunate since the improved AF was the reason I got this camera in the first place. I can confirm that I am getting 2160p29.97 output from the camera, though. There are several reasons why I would prefer to use the camera with the BlackMagic Intensity Pro card (in addition to the fact that I paid $200 for the card and own it). For starters, because the card is PCIe, it can do YUV 4:2:2 instead of 4:2:0. Second, in my experience the USB capture can be not quite as reliable just because USB is a bit flaky (I tested 5 different PCIe USB cards before finding one that seems to work okay with 4K capture). Can anyone thing of why the camera would not give me access to the "4K Output Select" menu with some capture devices, or if there's some other way of forcing Eye AF in my situation? Thanks.
  7. Not sure where where else to go. I rented a Sony A6500 to Livestream my upcoming Saturday July 3rd wedding along with an Atomos Capture Card and connecting HDMI to micro HDMI cable. I have been following several guides to make sure that the Camera is outputting resolutions and framerates that the Capture card can handle. The Sony A6500 does not seem to be giving output at all. When I connect to to Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) software and try to add it as a video source I get this vertical colored bars. This is OBS's ready signal to say it is waiting to receive input. I have independently confirmed the capture card works and the HDMI setting and internal recording settings (resolution, fps) are withing what the ATOMOS can handle. Under the Setup Menu, page 4 there is the ? 4K Output Sel. entry which I believe sets how you output HDMI signal from the micro HDMI port on the side. This 4K Output Sel. setting is grayed out and disabled on my camera. When I try to select it, I get the error message "This Function is currently disabled". I believe there are a number of different diagnosis for this problem. One that I am aware of is during slow motion or quick recording 4K Output Select is not available. I cannot find one single slow motion or quick recording setting to turn off, but I was hoping this forum could provide helpful tips to diagnose this problem. I am trying to salvage this setup but am considering other options at this point. I
  8. I've been using my A7III with the Elgato Cam Link 4K with no issues. HDMI Resolution was set to 2160p/1080p with 60p Output. Everything else in HDMI Settings was set to off and 4K Output Sel. was set to HDMI 24p or something. The image coming into OBS was basically 2160p24. This week I decided to buy the Blackmagic ATEM Mini and this is where my issues began. Plugging into the ATEM I got nothing, a black screen. Connected to the Cam Link and got a picture. Looking at the specs for the ATEM it'll only accept 1080p or lower. Changed the HDMI Resolution to 1080p with the Output set to either 24 or 60 with no luck. Tried connecting to a regular TV and the TV says no signal. It's almost like the camera won't output anything lower than 4k. I reset the camera with no luck. I haven't tried a different cable (Insignia cable).. But it's weird the cable would work with 4K but not regular old 1080p. I tried other sources on the ATEM and they're working perfectly fine. Tried an A6300 and that worked just fine with the cable. Hooked it up to a 4K monitor and different resolutions work just fine. The A7III works just fine in 4K mode on the 4K monitor, but 1080p doesn’t work. Anyone ever run into this issue before? Any ideas what could be going on? I’m at a complete loss as to what the issue might be
  9. Hi, I'm facing a problem. I want to control the A7RIII by using the USB multiport cable and get the live image of the viewfinder over HDMI. We use the A7RIII on a drone to take aerial pictures and movies. We have to use the USB multiport (USB PC Remote) in order to take pictures and to start/stop video in Manual photo mode. This will not work by using WIFI. This works perfect as long we're not plugging in the HDMI cable into the camera. When we use the USB multiport in combination with HDMI, the HDMI feed goes to black when we start recording. Taking pictures works like it should be. I think I've tried everything to solve this problem, but nothing seems to work. Somebody with the same problems? Somebody with a solution? +10.000 karma points for the person who can help me out!
  10. What exactly does the A7 III output at the HDMI port. I was thinking about getting myself an external recorder, but somewhere I heard that you can't output 120fps, just 1080p60. Is that correct and what exactly comes out of the HDMI port, in terms of bit depth, fps, etc.
  11. Any suggestions for calibrating a 7" HDMI display for video shooting with A7R3? The camera doesn't generate color bars, right?
