  1. I've got some weird flash behavior that I don't understand. I'm using an Andoer speedlight on my a6500. This flash has worked in the past, but now, if the flash is on, it automatically fires once when I first attach it to the cameras hot shoe, then it will not trigger again. If I pull it off and put it back on, it will again fire when it first makes contact, then not again. It does this even if the camera is off. At first, I thought the camera's hot shoe must be broken so that it was constantly in the "closed" position (thus completing the circuit for the flash), but my multi-meter says there there is not a complete circuit between the hotshoe components, and I have 4 other flashes of various brands (including another Andoer) that work just fine. Even stranger, the flash circuit runs on 4.8V (i.e., if I take the flash off the camera, turn it on, then measure the voltage between the + and - terminal on its hot shoe connection, it reads 4.8V). If, however, I wire it up so that I can measure that voltage while it is attached to the camera, it drops down to 2V, which I'm guessing is not sufficient to fire the flash. I have no clue what is going on. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks
  2. Hallo, i have a Sony alpha 7R and one question is making me crazy for a while: How can i Hypersync a studio flash on the Sony A7R? Everywhere there is this written solution about using a 2nd flash, but if the studio flash is mounted 3m above the model it sounds more like a joke to me. There are of course some solutions using Wireless triggers for Canon/Nikon but there has to be something for Sony, right? It's making me crazy because i can't find it, also because there is no adapter from canon to Sony Multi-Interface... What can i do? Thanks in advance, Maximilian
  3. I know its a video oriented camera, but it has the slot for a ttl flash but missing the in camera settings for it, and when you mount a flash on it does say that it does not recognize the accessory. My question is, it is posible that this option to be software blocked or the fx30 is hardware limited and is not comatible with a flash? All i found online about it are just simple no's and no real arguments as why cant you use a flash for photograhy. (the fx30 actually beeing pretty good at taking stills) Thank you.
  4. Good day all, I just purchased a Sony A7Rii and love it, but now want to use it with my digibees. What flash mode should I be setting the camera at. I notice there are fill flash/slow sync/rear/wireless. Thanks for your help.
  5. Dear all. My Flash trigger Yongnuo RF-603C it doesen' t work on my Sony alpha 7R II . Do you know if there is any way i can make them work ? I saw some tutorial that show how to modificate an RF-603N for a sony alpha 6000 . In case it' s impossible can you suggest to me some cheap flash trigger for my sony A7 R 2 ? Thanks a lot. Pika
  6. I've been using an Alpha 300 dslr for several years and would now like to be able to use with a set of studio strobe lights. Found an adapter (Vello HSA-CSC) that fits on the camera's hot shoe to connect a PC cord used to trigger the strobe lights, but the camera is not seeing the adapter connection and activates the on-camera flash instead. I've searched the camera's manual, but could not find any menu settings that seem to apply to this situation. So I'm asking the Alpha community for their suggestions…
  7. I am a Canon convert and currently have Canon flashes (as well as Nikon SB-80's). I am wondering what my off camera flash options are in terms of wirelessly triggering the flashes. I bought some Cactus triggers but apparently need a Sony flash for them. OR - are their Sony flashes that can be wirelessly triggered from the A7R2 without a transmitter/receiver unit? I noticed the flash controls in the menu. If that is the case, I would rather just pick up Sony flashes. Please respond like I am a 5 year old, lol. Not too tech-savvy and I am sure new-to-flash users will appreciate as well Jordan
  8. I have a a6000 and the Minolta 3600hs flash. I also have the hot shoe adapter to it will work on the camera. I have been on a couple portrait shoots since getting the adapter. My problem is it seems like the TTL doesn't always work. Every time I use the camera the mode on the back just says on not auto. I used to be a canon shooter then moved to mirorless for the size. I used hot shoe flashes a lot on those dslrs with no issues. Even when I change the flash compensation in the camera settings nothing seems to change.
  9. I recently purchase the Nissin i40 flash for my Sony A7Rii. I also purchased the Nissin Air Receiver and Air 1 Commander so I could do some OFF camera work. My readings said to bind the 2 requires the Commander and Receiver be updated to the latest levels. I sent both devices to the Nissin dealer and, I believe, all sorted. But, following the instructions, I cannot bind the two devices. does anyone have any idea how one does this. Any help would be appreciated
  10. I just purchased a Sony Alpha 6300 from Best Buy. Today was the first day I used it and I can't seem to get the popup flash to fire. Is it me or is the camera defective? I tried multiple setting - automatic, P, A, S -etc. - no setting allowed the popup flash to work. Any ideas?? Thanks!
  11. My recently acquired Phottix OdinII TTL for Sony MIS, works just fine with my A7RII, not my A7s. I have the Phottix Indra 360, it just does not get triggered by the A7s at all. I use both Sony and Canon L lenses with a metabones adapter on both/either cameras. The lenses don't seem to make a difference. Tried both combinations. I have a Sony flash which works on both cameras. everything else works fine on both cameras, no issues. Any ideas? suggestions?
  12. I have an A6500 and 18-200 Sony SLE18200LE lens coming and I am looking to understand any recommendation on external flashes. My expectation is with the 18-200 lens length, using the on-camera flash likely will experience some shadows, and when the existing camera flash is not powerful enough, it would be good to have a larger flash available even if I am able to get some descent shots. I have read about the Nissin i40 and my initial impressions is that I don't like it does not lay flat when folded out for storage and having manual dials vs LCD on the back. Based upon some you tube videos, the i40 seems a little non-friendly to adjust. I have not used a remote flash before, but if something is wireless, I could see the advantages of using that type of setup for some use, but it likely would not have to be a required feature as a non-professional, I think most of my use would be indoor family photos. Sony has four different flashes, and a couple of the larger (as most expensive) seems to be way over sized for the smaller footprint of the A6500. Any first hand experience on existing setups would be appreciated.
  13. Hello, friends! I got my new sony A7SII a couple days ago. When I tryed to shoot with on camera flash I surprisingly noticed that flash didn't fired. I'm using a Yong Nuo 560III with and witout an adapter. There was no any problem to shooting with that Flash unit with sony A7II. I tryed a different shooting modes and got that the flash fired only in "AUTO" mode and available in manu mode to work with. In "P", "M", "S" and "A" modes it dosn't fire and unavailable (grey color) in menu... Any help? Thanks
  14. Model: Camilla Chun (great to work with) Sony A7RII, 2-Phottix Indra 360s, Mitros+TTL, Canon 24-70 2.8II L. Phottix Softboxes.
  15. Can any of the flash lights Sony makes for the Alpha or Nex series be triggered by the RX100IV...? Since I'm unwilling to buy the A7SII without BSI sensor and its various issues, I figured I'll get a pocket cam that's decent at video to use until the A7S III gets released. But I'm held up by having trouble finding any usable info on Sony flashes (or any other flashes) that can be used with it, given that it doesn't have a hot shoe.
  16. I'm new to the forum and apologise if this has already been covered. Are there any inexpensive off camera flash cables for the Sony multi-interface shoe? Any "Sony compatible" cables I have found are not compatible with the mirrorless system and the pesky multi-interface shoe. I was completely misled by the manual for my a6000, the menu system on the camera and a number of review sites including DP review about wireless flash control on the Sony mirrorless system. Believing that I could replicate what I had previously done easily with my Canon gear I invested in a HVL-F60M and a HVL-F43M. It now transpires that I cannot control off camera flash with the a6000. To control flash wirelessly, one must be attached to the body. I am aware that Sony produce a hot shoe adapter which is very difficult to find in the UK but the cable is completely unavailable. I have also been told that even if I could find these accessories the flash attached by the cable would no longer operate as a wireless controller. At the moment I am using the F60M on camera as a controller for the F43M with the flash on it turned off. This is far from ideal. Would two Nissin Di700As with an Air 1 NAS TTL-commander a better option? Any thoughts? Thanks, Paul
  17. I have been very satified with the functions of the Nissin Di700A and AIR commander. I wrote about it in October here on SAR: http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/guest-post-by-dierk-topp-the-new-nissin-di700a-air-1-wireless-ttl-flash-for-sony/ I use it with different setups like umbrellas and diffusers. Yesterday I noticed, that the flash was hanging down from the tripod, only fixed by the cable of the PS8 power pack. The diffuser has been mounted for a while as you see on the first image. The wheight of it is about 160 gr. very light! Is the Di700A only for amateur use??
  18. Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has been able to test out the new Nissin Air R (receiver). I got one for Canon with the intention of pairing my Canon 430EX II with the Air 1 Commander on my Sony A7ii. I went through the pairing process and it worked, but when I shoot, I only get a flash every 2-3 shots. Does anyone have ideas as to why this is happening? Would it be because you can't mix and match Air Commanders and Air R's from different brands? I may test it out using a strobe with a sync cable and see if it fires on every shot. Thanks!
  19. Hi there! I'm new here but I've had my Alpha300 for about 6 years. I had an external flash that worked great and one day it just stopped working. It was cheap, so I thought I'd replace it with another cheap flash. I got the "Opteka EF790DG Super" which says it's compatible with Sony Alpha cameras. I tested the flash, it works fine...I just can't get it to "talk to" the camera. Does anyone have experience with this issue? I had a photographer friend check it out, but he's not familiar with Sony cameras. He said all the settings on the camera and flash looked correct, but it still wouldn't work. I'm not a photographer, so please dumb it down for me. Thanks in advance!
  20. Hi, I am having a problem while shooting my Sony A7 in a studio using manual lens on manual program. I set the aperture and exposure time for flash (i.e. ISO100, 1/200s, f/2.0), but obviously the normal light in the room is about 6-7EV lower. This results in the following - I cannot set the focus properly with the normal light as the viewfinder is dark. Do you have any solution for that: i.e. some way to bump ISO just for focusing? Thanks in advance!
  21. My HVL-F60RM Flash is constantly misfiring.... Meaning that even when it's off the camera's hot shoe, it fires just by touching it. Any ideas? TIA, Craig
  22. Hi all, Since two days I have an issue with the built in flash of my A6300. I don't use it much, but every now and then I do. What happens is that the flash does not fire and that in the viewfinder, I have the Icon for a flash with an orange dot which mean "Flash charge in progress". I can understand this for an external flash, but not for the internal. For the record, I have tried many things and with an external flash it works, although sometimes (also recently) I have to fit the flas one or two times on the hot shoe before it connects.. Ad yes, silent shooting and so are all off and the problem exists in all flash modes. Any ideas anyone? Thanks Ubo

  24. Hi, I'm coming from a professional Nikon's system to try Sony A7rII. I'm more or less satisfied of performance of my A7rII with lens adapter (commlite). I'll maintain double brand for a while, because A7rII autofocus can't challenge with nikon's speed and low light performance (I hope on A7 third series.. otherwise I will not switch to sony). Sometime I use remote flashes to have some backlight effect, with Yongnuo YN622 triggers and my nikon SB910s. I would like to trigger my nikon flashes also with the A7rII, I can do with my old RF-603 modified for sony. But with that solution I cant modify the power of flash from the trigger like with YN622 on nikon (I have no interest to use TTL, manual regulation are great) Have anybody tried to use crossbrand flashes with Godox X1 system? My intent is to buy one X1t-S, and two X1r-N to trigger nikon flashes with my sony and regulate power settings from transmitter. Can it work? Thanks
  25. I just bought the Flash for my Sony A7RIII. My intention is to use the Flash on camera to control the off-camera flash (another brand) with the R2 receiver. When the flash and R2 Reciever are set as shown in the attached image, they function as expected UNLESS I put the flash on the camera. Off Camera: 1. Turn everything on 2. Push the test button on the flash (orange button in the picture) 3. Both Flashes fire as expected Attach Flash to Camera: 1. Turn everything on 2. Push the test button on the flash 3. REMOTE flash ONLY fires 4. Press Shutter on Camera 5. CAMERA flash ONLY fires Conclusion (possibly erroneous) There is a camera setting wrong? I've tried all the Flash related ones on the camera. Nothing seems to matter. The box says that this Flashpoint flash is the Sony version. How could I tell if they put the wrong version in the box? Any help would be appreciated, even if it is just to tell me that everything is set properly and that I'm not nuts. More helpful would be to point out my simple error and make me feel sheepish but successful. I searched and found one other topic similar to this, but it did not seem to resolve this particular problem.
