  1. Hi folks, I'd like to kick off my first post with a picture of mine taken in Aruba last Christmas. Taken with my go-to landscape combo of A7rii and 18mm Batis.
  2. My first picture here A picture of my iPhone on my desk, shoot with my 85 Batis @ 2.8 1/320 using three Lumopro LP180r flashes triggered by Phoenix Odin II (HSS) for Sony. Screenshot of iOS-home screen is added in post.
  3. It seems to me that A7 enthusiasts, so excited about the new GM lenses, may be discounting one of the most important advantages and advances of the A7 system, this being its compact size and weight. These new GM lenses, and even, to a certain extent, the batis line, are big heavy lenses that cancel much of the advantage of the A7 system. I am hoping for more lenses like the wonderful loxias, that are great performers, as well as being compact. For many the lack of auto focus eliminates the loxias as viable alternatives, but I find focusing with them easier and more accurate than with my batis 85mm autofocus. I hope that Zeiss and Sony continue to develop these wonderful compact lenses and do not turn the small and powerful A7 series into a large unbalanced dslr like behemoth. And as far as bokeh goes, unless one is shooting wide open it makes little difference. Frankly I believe that the present fascination with bokeh is a bit overblown! What do you think?
  4. Hey folks, I am shooting Hilary again in the studio (this is being posted at 5:45pm EST time on Tuesday Jan 12th) and this is going to be a part of my Review of the 85mm Zeiss Batis Lens. If you want to follow me on Periscope to watch the shoot when I got live, add me @kyleandrewphoto to watch through the app, or click here to watch live on the web (although the app will inform you exactly when I go online and Live if you follow me and set it to do so). 6. 342/5000 Hi all Finally I was able to try my Batis 18, the place was not good, the light was not there and there were many people, perfect, the ideal place: D I'm really happy with the result, I shot in jpg with the color profile in black and white. The photos were resized and have a minimum crop. I used the A6300, tomorrow I will try it on the A7R3

  9. Hello Batis 18mm owners and wide angle lens experts Recently I bought this great wide angle lens but was quite disappointed when I checked my first pictures shot with a Sony Alpha 7 II as the lens produced some really weird dots above the sun with aperture 22 (see attached picture). My 10-20mm APS-C wide angle lens on the Sony Alpha 77 produced a much better sun star for a third of the price... ☹️ Did anyone experience the same issue or knows of that issue with the Batis 18mm? Thanks in advance for your feedback and advice, Andreas
  10. Zeiss Batis 1.8/85 and Sony A7. EXIF saved.
  11. I went to see BWB featuring Norman Brown, Kirk Whalum and Rick Braun at the Lyman Center. I brought along a Sony a7r2 mounted with a 70-200mm 4.0 along with a Batis 85m 1.8. Most images were shot at 6400 ISO as the light was somewhat on the dim side. Did shoot wide open on the 70-200 and on the Batis, I tried f stops between 1.8 - 3.5. In the raw images, the Batis is noticeably sharper and also has better color and contrast. Really like that lens the more I use it. Surprisingly, focusing was pretty darn respectful - set on continuous, face recognition on. Here is the link to the full set of images https://stillsandvideo.squarespace.com/blog/bwb Here's one sample from the set:

  13. Hi all, I just did a quick analysis of the new Zeiss Batis lenses you might find interesting. I compared their cost and weight to their Canon and Nikon counterparts: Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2.0: costs $1,299 and weighs 11.8 ounces. The rivals: Canon 24mm f/1.4L II: $1,549, 22.9 ounces. Nikon 24mm f/1.4: $1,929, 21.0 ounces. The Canon costs 19% more and is 94% heavier. The Nikon costs 48% more and weight 86% more. Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 costs $1,199 and weighs 16.8 ounces. And the rivals: Canon 85mm f/1.2: $1,999, 36.8 ounces. (plus slow autofocus) Nikon 85mm f/1.4: $1,599, 23.3 ounces. The Canon 85mm f/1.2 costs 67% more than the Zeiss Batis and weighs 119% more. The Nikon 85mm f/1.4 costs 33% more and is 39% heavier. Yes, you could go for Sigma Art lenses, which are priced lower than the Zeiss Batis lenses, but the Sigmas are incredibly large and heavy. Plus, Batis lenses will be used on smaller and lighter cameras. The Sony A7II is 21.1 ounces. The A7R is 16.7 ounces. All Canon and Nikon full-framer cameras are 26.5 ounces or heavier. So yes, the Canon and Nikon lenses are faster, but that comes at a huge price in terms of cash and weight. You can read more here.
