  1. Picked up an A7ii back in November and am only now getting around to editing the first few days worth of shooting I did with it. To my horror, I discovered some pretty bad banding/posterization effects. Here's a night shot: https://www.flickr.com/photos/bryanscott/24197544876 And a day shot: https://www.flickr.com/photos/bryanscott/23576052584 Seeing this banding was like stepping into a time machine back to my early digital days before I understood the benefits of RAW files. Now, these were taken with the camera before I updated to the new firmware, so the RAW files were of the old-school compressed variety. I have not yet examined my shots taken after I updated the firmware. Can anyone comment on the improvement (or lack thereof) they've seen in image quality since the firmware update? In particular, I'd like to know how the update has effected these banding issues.
  2. hello everyone, i need help with a very peculiar banding problem i have observed with my A7Rii. my lens is the e mount native sony zeiss 55mm f1.8. when shooting indoors, there often is a dark band clouding part of the picture taken. if i take stream of pictures in continuous mode or single shots one after the other, this is very visible. band is moving up and down sometimes clearing the whole picture, sometimes blocking it all, sometimes wider, narrower, denser... i suspected shutter frequency problems, like you would see when shooting a pc monitor but i think this is different. please take a look at my pictures, i downsized them considerably for ease of download. one single picture does not tell much but looking at them in series will tell the whole story. typically they were shot wide open and 1/250 but the results are not any different at f8 either. changing the iso does make a difference either. i tried shooting with a sony rx10 and did not experience similar problems. here are my links: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qkq2mlh46d1p3vr/AADU5mjRcQoZZ4NTZu6--Y0Sa?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kc1sfitf5836n1a/AAAHT0KMOuC5fnT3CVEy0MEHa?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uisyja5zp74ymuf/AAAsz-k-pJMIs1F74rC8Utwna?dl=0 attached the files on the first link directly:
  3. I have a new A7SII camera and was taking photos tonight and noticed a very severe problem. I would take multiple photos in succession, and they would all turn out looking different with drastically different color balances; some would be too blue, some too red, all over the spectrum. All of my shooting settings were generally set to manual, and I was shooting mostly on "M" mode, although I briefly switched over to "auto" and it still gave me the issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Below is a link to view a couple example photos so you can see the color shift that I'm talking about. Thanks! Click here for example photos!
  4. I'm a little over a year or so into owning an a9, the first one, not the a9ii (I thought I was slick saving $1500, and now I'm feeling kind of stupid). Tonight I shot some indoor basketball and was having some pretty significant banding issues, first time it had happened, and I was definitely not happy to say the least. I've scoured the internet, and there doesn't seem like there is any fix if you're shooting with the electronic shutter (which is, of course, why I bought the a9 in the first place). Anyone have any advice, or better yet, a solution?
  5. I shot some pretty underexposed shots today (playing around with stacking technique, this isn't ordinarily how I'd shoot), and when pushing them in lightroom (and the same thing appears in Capture One). Could it be heat from the card slot? I've not seen this is any other situation, but again don't typically underexpose so significantly. Anyone else seeing this? Attached are: default conversion & +100 shadows +2.14 exposure (Lightroom) Other details: compressed raw, silent shutter (so I've lost precision), burst to a single card, every shot in the burst has the same noise.
  6. Photographing with my "old" alpha 7RII a show in which there was a screen with a video projection in the background, I found the following problem: If I shoot with the shutter at over 50, I get a few streaks on the projection, but the funny thing is that it only does when the camera is set to silent shooting. If I turn off silent shutter mode, it no longer does ... Can anyone explain this strange behavior to me? I need to be able to take silent photos during the show and I need to shoot at high speeds ... any solution? Thank you so much.
  7. Hello, We own two Sony A7R IIIs. Mostly we are shooting a video in 1080p ( XAVC - S 25p 50M ) FF and S35. In all profiles we have a terrible banding. The video is unusable. We want to stay with Sony, but this problem must have a solution. Please share your opinion about what to do - some setup or new firmware from Sony or to make a claim and return the product to manufacturer. Thank you.
  8. Sony A7Riii Banding: the banding problem is nothing new. Since the A9 came out, using the electronic shutter with LEDs in the photo leads to banding. Here's my experience with the A7Riii and banding. I was trying to get some sweet bokeh from the Christmas tree lights. I turned off the silent shooting and everything worked well...until something else happened. I don't even know what to call it. I could see the black band/shutter(?) move across the EVF. Does anyone know what this is? Again, these were taken with mechanical shutter.
  9. Hi guys, I[ve got a brand new A7RII, and have been using it mainly for photography, As far as I can see, all firmware is the latest, and it is being used in pairing with a Sony Zeiss 24-70 f/4 lens. Today I had a video shoot for a client, however when inspecting the footage, I've seen that a LOT of the clips are covered in weird vertical noise patterns, lines, or something - I really have no idea what they are. I have no idea at all how to fix this and what is causing it, please, please can anyone help out? This is not happening to any clips shot at any other resolution than 4K. Please, does anyone have any ideas as to what this is and how to fix it? Please see attached picture!
  10. Has anyone had and issue with their Sony camera flickering outside? I've been scouring the internet for the last 2 days trying to figure it out and have yet to find anything. Im shooting on a Sony a7iii, with a Sigma 100-400 Canon. MC-11 adapter. All of which are updated to the newest firmware. The issue only happens when shooting 1080, 120fps. 60, 30, and 24fps work fine. My shutter speed is the correct 1/250. ISO is manually set, and so are white balance, and all other settings. Nothing is set to auto. Here is the link to an example video: https://youtu.be/dKlSIuqQIAc. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
