  1. Hey all, made some pictures with today with my 45mm Contax lens and Techart adapter and this weird ring started appearing. It's not really vignetting in the way that I am familiar - it does not happen with my 55mm 1.8 or the 90mm Zeiss Sonnar mounted on the same adapter, so I'm inclined to think it's lens specific but not sure. I hadn't noticed this in previous use with this lens, and I don't know what could have changed it. It happens at all shutter speeds with efcs turned on and off and it gets a little more pronounced with a smaller f stop as you would expect things to come in to sharper focus. I tried removing the lens hood and UV filter just in case that was somehow showing up even though it never did on the film camera - but that didn't change anything. I'm aware it could be some bizarre refraction issue or something given the beach scene, but it happened last night and this morning on the beach and again not with the other lenses. It's weird.... Any thoughts appreciated.

  3. Hi guys, Allow me to share a few of my shots that I recently took in NYC. These shots were taken with a sony a7rII and the loxia 21mm lens. Hope you enjoy them and please feel free to comment (constructive critics are accepted). Also if you are interested in checking out more of my work, here's a link: my 500px account
  4. This is a brief summary of the problem: The megaissue is with the Sony A7rII (but guess it’s applicable to other ILCEs too) and the two new GM lenses (24-70 and 85). Maybe it's applicable to other lenses too but I can't confirm as I don't have them. I confirm there are no issues with old Sony Zeiss 55 and 16-35 zoom. The issue is related to the the iris not opening while focusing with the 85 1.4 and 24-70 2.8GM. Setting Effect ON/OFF toggle setting has no effect (mine is always on OFF anyway). Practically speaking, you can’t focus accurately in normal dimly lit studio situations when shooting over f4. Iris stay closed while focusing and focus accuracy and speed drop. If you have to shoot at f8 (and in studio that’s the norm, but f5.6 proved impossible too) you can’t really focus at all unless you’ve a lot of ambient light too, even manually because the same accuracy drop is in the viewfinder, stopped down you can’t see the exact focus point even in manual focus when zoomed because the image is too coarse and spoiled by digital grain. It's a total show stopper. Previously I was using a Metabones/Canon 24/70 and Canon 85 combo with optimal results but I mistakenly thought that the new Sony duo would have been a wonderful choice and actually they are, but only when shooting wide open or almost wide open. Stopped down the focus is simply unusable and even worse prone to errors. My question is: does anybody know if Sony is aware of the issue and is going to fix it? Why they did such a big mistake with the new GM lenses? I’ve checked online and it's not my problem, other people working professionally noticed the very same issue. You can find a detailed description of the issue on diglloyd just to quote one. http://diglloyd.com/blog/2016/20160419_1756-SonyA7R_II-SonyGM-focusingBug.html He finds that even at f4 accuracy drops below the acceptable range. My results at f4 were slightly better but probably because people moves all the time so there are more chances that they move also towards the focus point. If I need to shoot at f8 with studio flashes how can I focus this way? I can't realistically open iris and then close before every single click. Des somebody know of any engineer’s email that I can contact about this? Is there a way to contact a Sony developer directly? You know, writing to support emails is totally useless for such critical but very peculiar issuers… Thanks everybody for any help. Maurizio Camagna http://camagna.it
  5. If you wanted to buy a Sony a7RII and had to choose between two sellers at the exact same price, which would you choose and why? - Grey Market model from long-established US seller with thousands of positive reviews on eBay - Refurbished model from long-established US seller with thousands of positive reviews on Amazon. Refurbish work and 1-yr warranty provided by seller, not Sony

  9. I am on my fourth try at installing firmware v4 on my A7rII - Using a Mac with OS X 10.11.6 - Following all instructions - no memory card, battery at 100%, USB set to Mass Storage - at initial stage in installer of "Connect the camera and computer" I soon get the message on the camera screen "check the connected device" - this is after it confirms that Mass Storage is on - I wait a bit and nothing more happens (should I be more patient) then the installer software says "Could not find the camera for this update" and tells me to shut down, start again - I have rebooted the machine and only have the Finder open when doing this The only info I could find on the Sony site talked about installing a 'DriverLoader.app' for newer versions of Mac OS X. I downloaded that and think I installed it, but it provides no feedback to that effect Has anyone had this and figured out a workaround? I could not find anything on the Forum. Many Thanks

  11. Hi everybody, I'm Luca, from Switzerland. I write this post basically to introduce myself and to tell my short story with Sony Alpha. In 2011 I bought my first advanced camera (an Rx100II), it was a great school for me, starting from automatic and getting full manual+RAW after some times. Now, after about 70k shoots with the RX100 I decided to make the "next step", as I was starting feeling limited by the possibility of that camera, although I will always love it for the light weight and small size. From Dec2014 I started be interested in the A7 serie. When A7RII was annunced I was stunned! In Jul2015 I went to B&H in NYC, A7RII was not yet in stock but preorder were already available. I was leaving for the Yukon, such an amazing place for a wilderness lover as I am. I tried in my hand both the A7RmkI and the A7II. I was so surprised about how big is the new A7 body! Big and heavy! Something I can't deal with...I bring my camera everywhere, expecially during my alpinism and hiking excursions, so weight is very important for me. At the end of the game, I bought the A7R mk1 with the Zeiss 2.8/35 and the G 2.8/90, not for the pricepoint or other reason, but for only one reason: the size/weight. In this way I have a body+lens around 600g that I can bring everywhere. I'm still warming up with the camera (about 3k shots), but I'm very satisfied about everything. The camera is super light for a FF, and with the Zeiss 2.8 I can bring it about everywhere. The quality is superb, expecially with good light. More than this, I love so much the feeling that it gives to me, the body is fantastic, and the shutter noise is so crazy. I would really like to try for one or 2 days the A7RII, to understand better what I'm loosing using the "old" version. Sometimes I get annoyed not having the steadyshoot, but is something that I can deal with. I think the bigger point is the sensor, the new one is much better, but, comparing the 36mpx FF with the old 20mpx 1'' of the RX100....I already made a big step These few thoughts to introduce myself and my gear, hope to find here a good community to speak about our cameras, giving suggestions about the material and about our photos. I will post some pictures of my travel in Yukon in about 2 weeks in the photo session, below a sneak peak. Nice to meet you everybody!
  12. Hi everyone ! I am trying to decide what combination is best for my sony a7r2 : Sony 24-240mm FE f3.5-6.3 lens Tamron 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 lens with adapter So I bought those two off amazon and plan to return the one I won't use. I took the Tamron sony mount with the LA-EA4 adapter from A-mount to E-mount. I have a few questions regarding those lens. Is it better to own the Tamron sony mount using the LA-e3 adapter or go for Tamron canon mount with a metabones ? I am asking that because there is a mirror in the LA-EA4 adapter that makes a lot of noise when turning the camera on and off (focus phase detection ??) Is the quality of Tamron glass different for different mount ? canon vs nikon vs sony ? Because the lens have different sizes with the sony one being the smallest one. Do you know any ressource that compare the sony 24-240mm vs tamron 28-300mm in terms of sharpness ? The focus ring do not activate the magnification helper on the Tamron. Is it normal ? Why the sony 24-240mm is significantly bigger and wider than the Tamron ? Why the 300mm focal on the Tamron seems to offer the same framing as the 240mm focal on the Sony ? Shouldn't the Tamron zoom farther ?? I would like to know if there is a difference between LA-EA4 with Tamron sony A-mount and Tamron Canon mount with metabones (or viltrox) which I like because it doesn't add supplementary mirrors or glass and is less bulky. Thank you for helping me decide which one to keep and what combo is the best.
  13. XAVC, full HD High ISO, no editing, I´m impressed!
  14. I 've just received my LA-EA3 lens adaptor and tested my long waited Sigma A mount lenses but I 've been having trouble with the focusing. Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art works perfectly with both phase detection mode and contrast AF mode. Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art cannot focus at all, it jumps between closest focal point and 4 feet. Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 DG seems to be able to set a focal point but is out of focus. Does anyone has any of the problems? What would be the problem? The lenses or the camera? Would a firmware update on the camera or the lens fix those issues? Please help!~
  15. Hi all, I shoot stills and video. I'd like to by the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens to go with an A7rII, but I can find no info regarding the image quality of this lens for still images. Can anyone offer advice on whether this lens can resolve to match the capabilities of the A7rII 42MP sensor?
  16. I'm in the market for a good quality wireless microphone for the A7RII to do field recordings. Can anyone recommend a product that does a great job and perhaps let me know which ones to avoid? Ideally I'm looking for something I can wear on my person for maximum voice capture with minimum ambient noise. I'll be shooting a lot near noisy waterfalls, city streets etc. Thanks in advance for any tips.
