  1. Hello! A question haunting me: The Sony A7 Mk II offers 24mb resolution. I shoots birds and butterflies; even with a 400mm lens, very often I end up cropping the FF image to APS-C size or smaller; often I shoot in APS-C mode for 'perceived reach' that gets me a 10mb image file. How would that compare with using say the APS-C size Canon 80D (also 24mb)? Here I would have a non cropped 24mb file as compared with a similar Sony A7 cropped image which would be a 10mb file. Which would offer better image quality for making prints of size 20x30 inches? Thanks so much!

  3. I've been trying to get my boss to take his 67 Mustang to cool location for a photoshoot for ages but we're always too busy. I now only have a week before moving to Sweden so I wanted to get a couple photos of the beast before I go. These are both bokeh panoramas (Brenizer Method) photos, taken from about 35 shots each and stitched using Autostitch64. These were both taken on a Sony A7 (mk1) with a Canon FD 85mm f/1.2 L lens. If you're not sure how these panoramas work check out my new website here: https://3dbokeh.com/info/pano/ Here are the stats for the first one: FF Lens Equiv.: 30mm f/0.47 Effective Sensor Size: 103 x 68mm Resolution: 184mp And here are the stats for the back view: FF Lens Equiv.: 31mm f/0.44 Effective Sensor Size: 97 x 65mm Resolution: 170mp

  7. Shortly after getting the Canon FD 85mm f/1.2 L lens to use on the Sony A7 (Fotodiox adapter I think) I decided to take it to the park to see what wildlife I could get. I found some very cooperative squirrels. Unfortunately they were so friendly that they were often too close for the lens to focus (90cm minimum focus distance). This is an un-cropped image.
  8. I am new to the forum - so let me start with a "Howdy Y'all". I shoot mostly nature and related topics and I am a recent Sony convert, so I figured that I would let those who may be interested know why. So here is the story, which I just published in my blog. Please feel free to comment!! Alberto

  16. I want to switch to a full frame camera and Fuji doesn't offer one. I am looking at the Sony A7 and need a 24-120 (or similar) F4 lens to use when I travel. The Sony lenses are a bit pricey for me and I want your opinions on Tokina, Sigma, and Tamron in this focal range. If you have any experience with these lenses please comment with your recommendations. Thanks!

  18. Hello! I just posted in the New member presentation forum. But I need some advice from you exepereinced Sony users I recently ordered a Sony A7, lighly used for 780€. I am totally new to Sony cameras but not to photography. Been using Nikon D610, m4/3 (Lumix GH4) and some better compacts like Fuji X100s and Lumix LX100. I am into hybrid photography; mixing stills and video. I am going to start off with adapting my Nikon lenses. I don't have a really big budget for building my Sony system now but I've been thinking of starting with the FE 28/f2 lens as my first native lens for the A7 as it seems to be the "cheap" lens Do any of you use the FE 28/f2 lens? Impressions of that lens? My goal with the A7: - complement my GH4 and LX100 with video duties (I know that it doesnt record 4K but I mix HD and 4K together as I always export to HD) - complement my D610 with photography duties - a light full frame travel camera (with FE 28/f2 lens) Any tips for a Sony newbie for starting out? Is the FE 28/f2 a good choice here? I have Nikkor 50/1.8G, Tokina 17-35/4, Tamron 70-200/2.8 on Nikon mount. Anything else to consider while I'm waiting for the A7 to come to me? All tips are welcome
  19. Hello all! I am not a new photographer but I am new to Sony cameras and this forum I've just ordered my first Sony camera, a Sony A7. Lighly used for 780€. I use m4/3 (Panasonic Lumix GH4),Panasonic Lumix LX100, Fujifilm X100s and Nikon D610 now. I am also into "hybrid photography"; mixing video and stills together. It is going to be fun to play with the A7. I'm from Finland (my nickname is from a character from the old Highlander movies). I am also looking for advise how to start with the A7. I ordered an adapter for my Nikkor lenses, so I'll start with adapting my Nikon lenses. Don't want to spend to much money on FE lenses at the beginning. I'll probably order the FE 28/f2 as that one seems to be the "cheap" lens Nice to be here in this forum!
  20. Hi! I wrote a little blogpost about my visit at the Feuerkogel in Upper Austria in Summer 2014. All pictures were taken with the Sony A7 and the Sony Zeiss FE 35 F2.8. Post with all pictures at my blog Take a look if you like! Constructive critique is also appreciated! Cheers Tom
  21. 500px Flickr Using my cooperative-by-meal-placement calico, I was able to test out how well my di700a would work with my new Yongnuo YN560 IV as a slave. It's a pretty good wireless setup. I'm using the Nissin Air Commander to trigger the di700a wirelessly. Then I have the Yongnuo set to slave mode and is triggered by the di700a's flash. The only issue I noticed involves using high speed sync. The di700 will trigger the Yongnuo in HSS mode if both flashes are set at full power. It seems if I decrease the power on the Yongnuo at all, it no longer fires on time and doesn't show up in photos. I haven't played around with it too much though, so maybe I'm just missing something.
  22. Hi everyone, I'm Phil from Portsmouth UK, I've taken the plunge and spent the most money I've ever spent on a single camera, I come from a Canon 7d background and my first impressions of the A7 was how similar some of the controls were, very pleasing, I've only had it a day and so far my only disappointment is the processing time for long exposures compared to the 7d. Anyway I can't wait to get out and shoot, hard when you have 3 small kids lol. I'm sure as I go on I'll have some questions but for now I'll sit and caress this beautiful camera.
