    Winter Portrait

A snapshot during a walk in the wintery woods. Planar FE 50/1.4 on A7II. Winter Portrait by Mathias, on Flickr
  2. Saw some other videos of this lens and they appear to focus rather quickly. Mine doesn't and makes bunches of noise. Made this sample video before I return it. Focuses within allowable limits when set to VIDEO but set it for PHOTOS and you wait for the see-sawing action to stop before it locks on. This test done from a tripod to a static poster. The thing would be useless out in the field as it's pretty much useless right now indoors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbDJib7MvkE

    Portrait Time

Hey there Portrait time with my Fiancée Melissa. Lighting: Indirect off-camera flash (Nissin Di700A & Air Commander). Sony A7II & FE 90/2.8 Macro @ f/2.8, 1/250th, ISO100. Eye AF (though the room was pretty dark, so it struggled quite a bit). Cheers Melissa by Mathias, auf Flickr

    Macro - Gibson LP

Hi there These were shot with the Sony FE G90/2.8M on the A7II. I used the little HVL-F20M flash in bounce mode. Both are at F/5.6. Tuner by Mathias, auf Flickr Pickup by Mathias, auf Flickr Cheers
  5. Hi Everybody, I'm about to get my new A7m2 and I'm researching lenses. I want to get a super tele zoom (like the tamron 150-600) and the only options I see are third party. Is there a difference between A-mount and EF or other mounts? since I will be using an adapter anyway? I'm not planning on using the Sony made adapter as it's kind of large and expensive, I will probably get a Fotodiox adapter. Thanks in advance, Itay
  6. Exposure Settings: 15s, F4, ISO400, 24mm Unbelievable detail from the A7RII - Love it!
  7. Ever since I had decided a while back that I was just going to shoot Fuji and Sony, I made the move to dump most of my Canon stuff (which was a pretty extensive collection). I successfully dumped about 12 lenses once I realized the A7R2 was the real deal and that it would work for me. Since then, I have bought the 28/2 and the 35/1.4 FE lenses. The 28 is compact, and renders nicely enough that it comes in very handy. The 35 was an inconsistent dog which was returned after a week of frustration (magical at the one thing it did well though which was centered subjects at close distances wide open). Since returning the 35, I have gone into a mode where I'm furiously looking for glass to put in front of this amazing sensor. I came to the point this morning where upon receiving my most recent purchase (Sigma 20mm 1.4 Art) that I have no completely bought back into a Canon glass system. I have since rebought (and resold) the 50L, rebought 85L2, Sigma 20mm and 50mm Art, and the Canon 200mm F2.0 IS all within the last two months. Adapting glass is not a perfect solution which is why I was hoping to buy into Sony completely. But seeing as my first experience with one of their expensive primes was complete shite, I was pushed back in the other direction to look for a fix for right meow. By my estimates, I've spent over 8k on Canon EF mount lenses recently while no longer owning a Canon EF mount body. This, to me is indicative of a major issue with Sony's ability to produce a line of impressive, consistent, and alluring lenses at comparable/acceptable prices. If they did have a solid line of lenses that I could trust, the cheese I just spent would all be in Sony's pocket already. I have owned a multitude of lenses in a multitude of different systems and the FE 35/1.4 was the first lens I've ever gotten that exhibited a blaring problem immediately upon mounting and shooting. This, combined with the subsequent reading I have done from lensrentals etc do not instill the confidence necessary for me to feel comfortable sending 1-3k to Sony for any lens right now. Go ahead and flame me if you want. But know that I would love for Sony to succeed and become a true contender as I have appreciated every bit of their innovation these past few years. Rant over. lol.

  9. I'm just asking the above question because I am thinking that a F2.8 zoom whether it be in FE mount or Alpha mount will need the same amount of glass to collect the light to present it to the image sensor. So, the new FE zooms will be approximately the same weight as the standard pro zooms in the Alpha range: 1. 16-35 F2.8 Z 2. 24-70 F2.8 Z 3. 70-200 F2.8 G 4. 70-400 F2.8 G If that is the case, then using these lenses on the A7R2 size body would feel a "bit" out of balance to say the least. I think I have read somewhere that the shorter gap between the sensor and rear glass element on the FE mount (when compared with the Alpha mount) will actually require a larger diameter glass to obtain the "magic" F2.8 number throughout the zoom range. If this is the case, then the equivalent FE lens could be heavier than the Alpha series lens. Can Sony do a magic act and "pull" a lighter lens "out of their hat"? Or, are we going down the path of lower noise / higher usable ISO to off-set the loss of this optical solution? I for one, just love the beautiful Bokeh produced by these F2.8 zoom lenses. What does this community think?
