  1. Saw some other videos of this lens and they appear to focus rather quickly. Mine doesn't and makes bunches of noise. Made this sample video before I return it. Focuses within allowable limits when set to VIDEO but set it for PHOTOS and you wait for the see-sawing action to stop before it locks on. This test done from a tripod to a static poster. The thing would be useless out in the field as it's pretty much useless right now indoors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbDJib7MvkE

  3. Just received my Sony 50mm 1.4 and brought it with me to a recent shoot for a jewelry fabricator. I was really pleased with the lens, bokeh was sweet, focus was fairly responsive and the colors/contrast was very good. It was a challenging day, heavy heavy rains, a tornado alert during the shoot, then followed by flood warnings. Nonetheless, the team carried on and I decided the lens earned a permanent spot in my gear bag! Glad I bought it.
  4. Today i want to show you my results from yesterdays portrait and streetshoot with the new little FE50 1.8 + Sony A7II. Check out my experience using the Face Detect + Eye AF. I will update this post a lot in the next days http://www.dsphotoblog.com/?p=1405 ‪#‎photography‬

  7. I found a used Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2, type 4 (with the focus tab). It was in so-so shape, mechanically ok but with the aperture ring a bit loose and with a few small friction scratches on the rear element. It was also dusty inside, showing maybe traces of fungus. I took my chance and had it CLA'd and it turned out to be pretty good. Finally it wasn't fungus, just weird dust. The rear element scratches don't seem to affect the pictures. I am using it on my A7II with my Voigtlander close focus M adapter. I don't really like the focus tab handling, it feels awkward, maybe it's a question of getting used to. There is some vignetting wide open, easily correctable in post. No color shift in the corners. Here's a picture I took today, I think the 3d pop is rather stunning, and it is razor sharp, wide open. mile-end-anarchy by Colin Surprenant, on Flickr I'll post more picts shortly. Colin

  13. Just received my beautiful Loxia 21mm and 50mm. Upon comparing the lenses I noticed that the 21mm has a significantly stiffer resistance when focusing compared to the 50mm. Anyone out there own both and can share their experience? Very much appreciate it. I might be over reacting to this, but after dropping that cash I am getting paranoid. Thanks!
  14. TL;DR: got any recommendations for a cheap fast manual non-radioactive 50mm prime? I have an a6500 with the 16-70mm kit lens and also the 30mm f1.4 Sigma lens, which I love by the way. However, I want to use some legacy primes to experiment with different focal lengths, perhaps a tilt adapter later on, etc. I also don't want to use a radioactive lens, because firstly I don't have a basement in my small apartment to "hide" the lens away when I'm not using it, secondly, I have a dog, thirdly I just don't want to take the risk. I have shortlisted it to the following: Minolta rokkor-md 50mm 1.4 - might be radioactive?? but f1.4 is very fast and apparently it's sharp too Helios 44m 58mm f2 - this is a lens primed for its swirly bokeh but I've heard on crop sensor bodies the bokeh doesn't swirl as well Auto-Takumar 55mm f2 - this has great "soap-bubble" bokeh, and works well on crop mode. The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on this lens is that it may be radioactive (according to the Angry Photographer it's not but others say it is, and Pentax was notorious for radioactive lenses in that era) and also it's very RARE and fairly expensive. I'm in love with the look of the Takumar lenses, by the way. Konica 50mm Hexanon f1.7 - this lens is very sharp wide open and very inexpensive, don't think it's radioactive (is the bokeh any good?) Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF/AFD - not that vintage but fairly cheap and certified non radioactive (lens-makers stopped using thorium in the mid-80's) Anyone got any suggestions/tested the radioactivity of these lenses? Also, does the radioactivity vary from lens to lens? Thanks.

  17. Focus is great and quick, but as soon as I go to video the focus stays sharp but keeps running even if the subject doesn’t move. Here’s a link I shot (couldn’t attach the video here) https://imgur.com/a/z4FwBrb

  21. I know this topic is out there in abundance but I wanted to put it in a forum where Sony products wouldn’t be bashed! I saved my pennies and finally switched from a canon 80D, using an APS-C sensor, to a Sony A7iii in September. This was in an attempt to change my hobby into something that might make me some weekend money. Annoyingly I could only afford to buy the Sony with the native 50mm 1.8. Unfortunately, the love affair of had with the nifty fifty from canon was sorely missed. Working as a part time family lifestyle photographer, I found it just lacked.... Something. Anyway, I’ve once again been saving and want your opinions on diversifying the lenses at my disposal. I think I miss the focal length of my crop 50mm, so the highly praised Sony 85mm 1.8 the first lens in leaning towards but would you then chop the 50mm in for a little more towards say a Sigma art 35 1.4. If you were after 2 general lifestyle primes to go with a 70-200 canon f4, what would they be? Thanks for your thoughts and I’m pleased to be joking the community!
  22. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cBAICAiI74 Hi everyone, I have a Sony Zeiss lens (SAL50F14Z) that wobbles very badly. I tried to send it to Sony for repair, but the Sony repair center just sent it back and claimed that the wobble is *normal*. I personally do not believe it is normal, as I don't recall having this wobble before, and my other Sony Zeiss lens doesn't have that. Could the community give any recommendation what I should do? If this is really normal, then it's a big design flaw from Sony!
