  1. Hey guys, Ive had the A7S II for a couple of days now and shot a Sculpture-by-the-Sea even in Sydney. I used the 35mm F2.8... First video of it's kinf for me. I had a couple of tricky bits to handle. I had the build in stabilization on 35mm and was shooting in FHD 100fps. Some of the clips came out a bit more shaky than I expected so I stabilized them in post. When I switched to my Canon 16-35 with the Metabones Speedbooster, they looked a bit better. Maybe I should have set it to Auto? Anyways. I enjoyed the shoot a lot and Im looking forward to more... Comments and Critics are very welcome... as well as tips for compositing and editing. Cheers
  2. Hey folks, taken on a walk with my dogs in Zoutelande in the Netherlands. No other people around, just the chair and the boat perfectly aligned (found it that way). Sony a6000 with 35mmf18. f5, 1/4000. It was my first holiday with a camera better than iPhone and my first take with lightroom. Looking for feedback on composition and post processing to learn. Feel free to comment, any tips are highly appreciated ! Quality of image is not that good, probably because it was rendered from smart preview in lightroom (traveling without external hdd). Best Daniel
  3. Hello, My 35mm 2.8 lens is acting crazy on my A7S making weird noise and focus don't work. I can't even select aperture. Here is a video of the problem including the weird noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfg4Nvz7jsU Anyone ever had this issue and know how to solve this? Thank you!
  4. I was looking into the Sigma Prime 35/1.4 but passed because of low light focus issues. Can anyone recommend a sharp 35/1.4 in or around the 1K to 1.2K price point? I know it is kind of like finding sasquatch for that price but I thought I would give it a shot! Eric
  5. Used cameras: - Sony A6300 - Sony A7s Used lens: - Sony E 18-105mm f/4 G OSS PZ - Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS - Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS - Sony DT 85mm f/1.8 - Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X116 Pro DX II - Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
  6. So I've just got the A6500 from Sony for making video. The 18-105 f4 has been perfect for all my filming so far but with winter coming I need to get some faster glass to get some more light in on these dark nights. Have some questions... If you put the Sony 35mm 1.8 with stabilisation on the A6500 with stabilisation do both stabilisers work or does one switch off the other? Is the f1.4 from sigma in real-world terms going to let much extra light in compared to the Sony f1.8? Does AF on the sigma work as good as on the Sony? Is the A6500 stabilsation enough if I went with the Sigma? Many thanks everyone, G

Lugano under sunset from Cross Peak on Caval Dossa area. Down left the cross, you can see the piramid of Monviso, a peak 280km far from where we were! I worked with a graduated ND filter to get a darker sky, then I left the colour as much as were in reality, working on contrasts to have the best effect on the ray coming behind the mountain. Last aspect I worked to are the blacks, that I made darked and deeper.

  9. I'm a photographer but this camera is no joke for video. It's not perfect and has a few issues but for the money I feel I couldn't have done any better. Every shot is the a7iii with either the 35 1.4 of the 85 1.8. On 3 shots I used the Mavic Air.
  10. Hey guys! I need your knowledge, experience opinion! I am new to this forum, as I just sold everything and switched from Canon to Sony (A7III) and need advice. I have already read and watched hundreds of reviews, comparaisons and discussions on the best 35mm lens I can get for my needs and I still don’t find any satisfying answer. I had no issue to find the adequat prime lens for every focal lenght I use but the 35mm. It has been giving me headaches for weeks... Maybe some of you own some of the lenses I am hesitating on buying (I have specific questions for each of them) or maybe you’ll find some interesting advice and experiences as well in the following discussion. Anyway, we all know there is no perfect lens. You have to make compromises. The best one is the lens that suits your needs. I do street and travel photography for my personnal pleasure, and I mainly shoot concerts and music festivals professionally. I also do video for fun but want to start being more professionnal about it. 35 mm being my favourite all-around go-to focal lenght, I really care about this choice. So here are my personnal needs, by order of importance, followed by the possible choices that I get, and their downsides. 1/ Fast and accurate Auto Focus ( even in low light) I love vintage lenses. And I will probably end up using Zeiss and Voigtlander MF glass for my personnal stuff, as the quality is incredible. But as I shoot moving subjects in low light, MF does not give me as many keepers. I need AF for more reliability (unless those MF to AF adapters work efficiently?) 2/ Fast aperture (low light, DOF, cinematic shots) Ideally f1.2 (but only 1 AF third party lens available) or f1.4. Maybe f1.8 or 2. F2.8 could already be too slow but I have not tried the low light performances of the A7III. Maybe it would be fine. Thoughts? 3/ Smooth manual focus ring for video. I don’t need a professional cine lens. But a decently smooth focus ring for video is important. 4/ Good IQ (sharpness wide open, microcontrast, bokeh...) I don’t need the sharpest lens in the history of mindkind. I prefer good rendering microcontrast and buttery smooth bokeh, but the sharper the better, obviously. BONUS (less important) 5/ Weather Sealing is a plus. I shot some pretty hectic and dirty gigs with mud and rain all over the place without Weather Sealing and it was fine, so it would be a big plus, but i can deal without. 6/ Size/Weight I can handle big heavy bodies and lenses, but a small and light equipment is a plus in certain situations (traveling, being invisible, shooting secretly, trying to be intimate with the si ject without intimidating them, shooting all day etc). 7/ A bit of character ? Again, it is about the photographer, not the gear and I can give my twist to the pics in post, but if there’s some character to the lens, that’s a plus. 8/ The cheaper, the better, obviously. If I can manage to get it under 1000 us Dollars new or second hand, that would be nice. 9/ Build quality. Full metal is better, but I don’t mind plastic. 10/ And the least important to me: design/handling/balance/look. If it is well designed and balanced with the body, and if it is pleasing to the eyes and hands, That’s perfect. But it is not an important requirement at all. So, here are the possible choices that we have (from what I know) and their apparent downsides: Sony Zeiss FE Distagon T 35mm f1.4: - Seems to fit every criteria - But expensive - And a lot of reviews say a ton of copies are abnormally soft in some parts of the frame... Rokinon/Samyang 35 mm AF f1.4: - Seems to hold up well against the Zeiss in terms of sharpness. - I don’t have my computer at the moment but from my low res phone screen the bokeh seems pretty equal. - Cheap in price and good looks/ergonomics. - But some report a problem with low light autofocus. - Some say the manual focus ring is not good and precise for good video work. - Strong CA? (easily fixed in post?) Sigma Art 35mm 1.4: - Amazing reviews - Seems to fit most criterias - Very sharp - Some people say the autofocus is bad, especially in low light, which is the most important criteria. I can handle some missed focus, but is it 5-10% or more like 20+% of missed shots? - Has someone tried the emount version in low light already? - Flat rendering? Not good in terms of microcontrast and bokeh? Sony FE 35 mm 2.8: - The size, weight, look, ergonomics seem perfect. - The IQ is very pleasing to me (character, bokeh, sharpness, microcontrast). - But 2.8 may be a bit slow? What is you experience at this aperture in low light environments with tge A7II or III? Tamron 35mm f1.8 VC: - This lens seems to be so perfect in theory for a price so cheap - Every detailed reviews says it is amazing, a steal, a no brainer - Build quality, macro, weather sealed - But it is 1.8 - I am afraid of the ergonomics and handling with a metabones or other adapter (+price) - Huge CA? - And I don’t remember having seen any picture taken with this lens that I found beautiful (and I don’t know if it is just me, the rendering, or the photographers who used it, or I didn’t search enough, I don’t know) I didn’t recall another one that seemed to be in the price range and fits those criterias . For now I still hesitate between the Sony, the Sigma and the Zeiss but everyone of them has huge downsides that I don’t know if I could work with... Maybe you have some suggestions and answers for me. I am listening. Thank you for your time and consideration, it is very much appreciated!
  11. Hi guys! My name is Emil and I am a 20 year old guy from Denmark who is going to spend the next 1-2 years working and travelling. I will travel to Sri Lanka and the Seychelles for a month in February with my girlfriend. I would love to bring a nice camera setup to document my trip! I am getting my hands on the Sony a7iii. From what I’ve seen on the web, it seems like a very capable camera with a very “fair” price point. But damn… what lens should i get?!?! My prior experience might be very limited compared to many on this forum, however I will try to describe myself as a “photographer” if I am even allowed to call myself that ;) I have previously shot a decent amount of drone footage and played around with a borrowed entry level Nikon d5200 paired with a Sigma dc 17-50mm 2.8 ex hsm lens. (Which would be equivelent to something like a 28-75 on a FF) My current kit consists of a: DJI Mavic Air - which I use for aerial landscapes. GoPro Hero 6 - which I use for action watersports and other typical GoPro stuff. I love taking both photos and video! I think photography will take up most of my time - at least in the beginning. I am currently editing on a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro (2,6 GHz i5, Intel Iris Graphics, 8GB)… I can only imagine how it will handle 4k and higher frame rates… I see myself primarily taking photos/video for my personal social media, however I occasionally do semi-professional jobs for companys or product-related projects. I would love to provide content for my girlfriends instagram aswell. She generally post travel related content and mainly urban “environmental” fashion portraits. I thinking full/upper-body portraits with some nice bokeh/background seperation capabilities. I like to show the location/landscape behind the subject/model. So I do not wish to completely conceal the location. I like to take photos in the same style, but maybe with more epic “wide” landscapes… So to sum it up… I would love to be able to take: Urban/environmental full-body portraits, with a nice (decent) amount of bokeh/backround seperation. Wide epic landscapes (I have previously worked with stitching photos together for wide perspectives) And other travel/urban/street related stuff. + have nice video capabilities and low light performance. I have found some photos, which I really like. I would be more than happy if I could get the somewhat the same look (editing aside) https://www.instagram.com/p/BozIkx5HPP8/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BnOXurPnSuu/ https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm8yuU_nSm3/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BpCajIUF-k1/ https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpjh0Lslswp/ https://www.instagram.com/p/Boc2ZNVhkd6/ Credit to all the creator - check em' out! I have considered following lenses: Zooms: Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM (or f/4) Primes: Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 Sony 85mm f/1.8 Which ones would you go with? I maybe thought 24-70mm f/2.8 + 35mm f/1.4 would be a very nice setup. I just don’t know if 24mm would be wide enough… hmm.. I think the 35mm has a little more interesting FOV than the 50mm, while it might be “worse” a worse portrait lens when taking distortion into mind. Maybe pair the 35mm with a 85mm in the future and skip the “inbetweener” 50mm Any thoughts? Is there any budget solutions without big sacrifices? I know lenses should match the cameras potential.. but wow those GMs are expensive... what about other brands like Tamrons 28-75 f/2.8? Samyang 35mm f/1.4? And at last - what are your experiences regarding Black Friday/ Christmas deals on cameras/lenses? Would love to know if I could save some money by waiting a little! I would love to hear your thoughts! I hope you haven’t heard these types of questions too often (which you properly have). Anyway… sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes - I hope it makes sense! - Emil S.
  12. Purchased this lens a couple of weeks ago. Never really owned a prime in this focal length. It's been a lot of fun shooting with it. More images using this lens on the A7M2 can be found here.
  13. Drove 1600 miles round trip (about 4 hours of it off-road) to visit White Pocket, AZ. A very strange alien planet type landscape. These shots were taken with my Sony A7r, sony 35mm 2.8, ISO 800, f5.6, that I mounted to my S1000 octocopter. More can be seen on my personal facebook page https://www.facebook.com/steven.snyder.790/posts/10209248471603589?pnref=story I notice the uploaded versions appear slightly soft on this page, possibly a little better on Face Book. Thanks for viewing Steve
  14. I wanted to try out the Sony/Zeiss 35mm 1.4 on the a7rII, and happened to have some colorful fruit sitting around. I wouldn't usually think that 35mm is good for food, but the minimum focal distance is surprisingly close. Obviously this was a very quick test. Only natural light. f/4, 1/20, ISO 400 Capture One, very light editing. f/4, 1/30, ISO 400 Capture One, very light editing.
  15. I was in the market for a fast full-frame 35mm so I decided to get the fastest there is -- the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.2 II. I'm really enjoying the characteristics of this lens, especially the wide-angle shallow depth of field. Here's a shot I took from a low perspective in a flower bed that I was quite pleased with! 16. Hello again, here are a handful of picture from my second trip, this time to lovely Venice in Italy. Venice presented itself in the best of colors, autumn and a weatcher like that is just gorgeous. 17. Hi there, I'm a photographer from Germany and I'm in the lucky situation that I'm able to travel a lot. This year in summer i bought some new eye candy, a Sony A7II with the Sony Zeiss 35mm f1.4 lense. Here is some of my first pictures ... 18. Hi! I have an A7. Ok this is me seeking opinions. I went to best buy today to have a look at this lens; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FSB799Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=AAK72K4OIWDXL Obviously it's a great lens, perfect for what I am looking for (full frame, great for street photography, portraits and bokeh) correct? Of course, it's expensive. So while in the store, one of the employee's showed me his A7, along with a kid of 5 lenses along with adapters he purchased on eBay. Anywhere from a 1.8 50mm cannon, to other random lenses he seems to enjoy, for a total of 200$ What I am trying to decide is, is this $800ish, though exactly what I am looking for, smart? Or do I save 500 or so dollars and buy some cheap adapters and a decent 50mm 1.8 on eBay? Any recommendations are more than welcome !
  19. Hello all, could someone please tell me how the following lens's would work with my A7? I understand they are e-mount, but as far as I can tell they are not full-frame, so I want to know...will the 50mm act like a 75, and the 35 act like a 50mm? And will they end up as cropped images or would they in fact be full frame just a larger .mm because of the size of the sensor? thank you ! 20. Hello everyone, I just got my first mirrorless camera - Sony A6000 with 16-50 lenses. The camera is great, but the lenses are not very enjoyable, they don't even have manual focus. I was thinking to get 35mm lens, but they are as expensive as camera itself, so I decided that I should go for some LEGACY lenses, so I could get some 'mad skillz' at manual focusing and working without zoooooooms. But since I've never had bought any lenses in my life, this only leads me to one question, what 30 or 35mm legacy lenses could you recommend and will they need an adapter? Also tell me why do you recommend these lenses. Thank you! EDIT: I tried to do searching by myself, that's the only ones I found right now, any opinions about them?: http://www.skelbiu.lt/skelbimai/revuenon-35mm-f-2-8-su-adapteriu-canon-nex-m4-3-20314886.html It's Revuenon 35mm f/2.8 with a mount to NEX cameras, costs only $40 Also I found a list of some lens, any PRIMES are worth considering? http://www.skelbiu.lt/skelbimai/minolta-md-24-28-45-135-200-ir-zoom-13090220.html

  23. Hi everyone, I published a few days ago on my blog a long list of 35mm legacy lenses. I had this list for years, and finally got to clean it up a bit to make it comprehensible to others and not just me I'll try to keep it updated, so come back every few months if the lens you want is not there. You can check it - and download a copy for personal use, if you want - at: 35mm legacy lenses: sizes and specs Careful, the list is 2,5Mb, so the page will take quite a bit to load! And if you're interested at the following url you can learn how the idea was born (not my site, I was a guest on this particular occasion): How the 35mm legacy lenses list was born: a guest post at DearSusan In a bit I should be able to publish another one about medium format legacy lenses, if anyone is interested, so stay tuned. Happy pictures
  24. I am very temped by the "new" Sony cameras, A7II and a6000, but really can't complain about the images I get from my "old" a 65.
  25. Share some pics of Zeiss Distagon FE 35mm f/1.4 more here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/meng_keat/tags/sel35f14z/
